Rain

  • I am loving being clipless and having overshoes at the moment. Worthy investment.

  • I suppose you could say that the snow's a bit shit. Or you could say that sometimes it gets down below -20C and riding through over foot of snow between December and March isn't uncommon. Worse than that though is the grey slush that builds up at the side of the road and freezes over at night and you have little choice but to ride there because the traffic is forced down to one lane and will go at all lengths to drive bumper to bumper. Even having brakes isn't much good because there's a fairly high likelihood that your rims will ice up.

After that, the Seattle rain seems pretty measly.

Of course it doesn't rain as much in Summer but then when the humidex is running at 50C then I reckon some Seattle rain would be a welcome relief. All in all, I reckon Seattle's an easier place to ride, even if it is a bit damp at times.

  • Being from Seattle, may I just take this opportunity to call you all a bunch of fucking pansies.

    Thank you.

Everyone in Seattle is so deeply dull and asleep that they don't notice the rain.

Isn't "pansy" an unacceptable term on the US West Coasst?

Well, Seattle has a lot of wet bands to answer for.

  • Well, Seattle has a lot of wet brands to answer for.

    Fixed

  • Good work there, fella.

oops. thats what you get when you dont read the first page. have you heard his other songs? weird guy.

  • last night i stacked it in the rain when my brake cable snapped as i was cycling along charing cross road.

utterly spactacular, i dropped to the ground in front of a bus, slid along and swore a bit.

thank god it was wet so I slid along

  • Yesterday wasn't so good for me either, fell off. lost my gloves twice in the rain, and had to go search for them twice, in the rain.

  • 2 punctures - 1 piece of glass, checking the inside of your tyres in the pissing rain is not fun.

  • easy to see why this thread is so live-everyones currently indoors looking at the rain.
that and dreaming up soft drinks that dont cost the earth,
Im out in the fucker all weekend on a B.C course- time to man up.

  • Rain always looks worse than it really is when you're not in it.

  • Rain often looks worse than it is when you are in it. On the 2007 DD I didn't think the rain was that bad until a car came the other way with the lights on.

  • I loved the 2007 DD. I also loved the 2007 and 2009 Exmouth Exoduses (no poncy plurals here). I wouldn't want to do it every time, but somehow I enjoy riding long-distance in the rain.

  • Thinking that we should set up the LFGSS Midnighter Club for those doing some of the overnight rides. DD, EE, Dorset Dash etc. We could have a special spokecard for participants.

  • His bike does look gay.

From the guy with a pink bike, very nice

    I'm in.

  • Thought you would be.

How do you feel about Birmingham to Skegness? I reckon I can make a decent route of it.

  • I'm in.

I'd be quite up for this too. Dates depending bla bla bla.

That sounds great. It's about as far as the DD. I just put it into Gmaps Pedometer in one go and it drew a route that was as straight as an arrow. Do you want to do it in mid-winter or in spring?

Oops, misread that I think ...

  • Blah blah balh...uphill in the snow..both ways....10 mile walk to school....

We were talking about rain. Not snow. Both are rubbish in their own way (and fyi, I grew up in eastern washington...where it does snow. Big time).

Yes, but this is London my friend.
