  • But there wouldn't be big or awkward junctions if there were no cars.
But there are cars, so this is pointless.
Just my personal view is that lights are for cars and are more of a guidance for cyclists.

Its really good when light fail, and then people in vehicles actually HAVE to look out and communicate with each other, really find it amazing how much energy is wasted on sorting out junctions when people can actually as you suggest work it out fairly equitably when given the chance. then of course this is london, my friend and anything can happen.

  • isn't there some street in london where they trialled having no lights.

  • How long are those jeans when rolled down? They look a good half-leg too long. I hope he was jumping that light on his way for some tailoring.

  • I particularly like this one:

    Its called proportionality.
The likelihood of a car shooting a red light is much much more likely to kill or seriously injure a more fragile and vulnerable road user than a cyclist.
Most of the very few cyclists who shoot red lights do so for self preservation.
Some theories state that women are more likely to die under the wheels of an HGV becuase they are less likely to shoot red lights.
The point of law is to protect the fragile and vulnerable. That is pedestrians on pavements and cyclists on roads.
Sort out the 70% of illegal HGVs, that have killed over 80% of the cyclists who have died this year, and then you wont be asking cyclists to stay in the death trap cycle lanes on our roads. Look at the blind spots around an HGV and tell me you would not leap a light and hop onto the pavement if one was accelerating towards you unable to see you.
Get some perspective. Tax is proporational too. Its to compensate damage to the road surfaces, H&S, air quality and noise. Get informed.

Really shows up this journalist for the numpty he is!

  • The Daily Mail was the first paper to follow the sensationalists style of journalism. They rely on lying and the distortion of truth to get their sales.

  • And what about the peds crossing the road against a red light just behind Mr. Darth Vader? One of them is even pushing a pram, presumably containing the most vulnerable road user of all...?

Get rid of all cars in London, problem solved. Or at the very least ban anything larger than a 4x4 (except buses of course) between 6am and 2am = much emptier roads

All none of them? Though I do agree it's a bit unfair that peds can break reds when they want, yet cyclists are hated for it.

Yes, lets get rid of all the motorised vehicles on the roads in London, simple. Actually, let's just get rid of all of the people, ban people from London and we won't have to worry about any traffic!

It's not just peds that do it, I see cars RLJ all the time, yet that seems to be ok by the news!

  • Isn't the cyclist in the pic Mr Smyth?

As if Mr Smyth would ever cycle in denim

  • First immigrants and now cyclist. Who's next? Freemasons?

  • there are almost as many pro cyclist commenters on the Daily Mail website as there are ranting right-wing commentators on the guardian website.

  • Lets get a few of us together, dress up as Darth Vader, some stormtroopers, some emperors royal guard, and doorstep this fucker when he come out of the commons one evening, film the lot and force him at lightsabre point to apologise.

I'm really good at the voice..."I think we can dispense with the pleasantries Commander, I am here to put you back on schedule..."

  • It's not just peds that do it, I see cars RLJ all the time, yet that seems to be ok by the news!

Definitely, though it does happen quite a bit less than peds/cyclists, in saying that, I nearly got taken out by a bus RLJ-ing on the way back from Souths last week.

  • Some theories state that women are more likely to die under the wheels of an HGV becuase they are less likely to shoot red lights.

that theory is bollocks thought, I still believe that the green line encourage cyclists to undertake dangerous vehicle is to blame.

    Isn't this Eilidh's sister?

  • Yep :)

  • who's responsible this?

    Lol at those ri-dick-cu-lous turnups...

  • It's not just peds that do it, I see cars RLJ all the time, yet that seems to be ok by the news!

that's because drivers are massively in the majority, and people always love to pick on the minority. also, england is a nation of lazy arse fat idiots who wouldn't be able to cycle 100 metres, let alone to work, and therefore, in a weird twisted way hate those who are willing and able. huge generalisation i know.... but.... ok i'll stop now....
