Haggis, Fungi and Jaipur are all great 2-player. Mr Jack if you like deduction.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out.

Similar to Pandemic, my daughter enjoys playing forbidden island which works well for two players
-
• #455
Yeah I think all cooperative games work well two player as it's still you Vs the game.

Lovely to meet sacredhart the other day. Forum donation made, too.

Definitely agreed on that. Especially in economy-building games it can feel quite negative to always be taking from the same person.

Apologies if this is spamming the thread but there’s always requests on here for games to get kids into board games. I’ve got some games that my daughters (now 7) have grown out of:-
Zicke Zacke Huhnerkacke (Chicken Cha Cha)
Tier auf Tier (Animal upon Animal)
Russelbande (Piggyback Brigade)
Monza (Haba)
They’re probably best for 3-6 year olds. Have a google or look on Board Game geek for details. Was thinking £20 for the lot? -

We just got Fungi, thanks for the recommendation, it’s really good.
It is a lot like a game called Frog Juice which my son likes, but Fungi is a bit more complicated and you can have more cards in play at one time.If there are other parents considering them my son is 8. I think Frog Juice is for age 6+, Fungi 10+.

Waiting impatiently for Burgle Bros to come back into stock in the U.K. I have the android app, which is a faithful rendition (and significantly cheaper ofc) but the app doesn't do online multiplayer; sitting around a tablet with your friends isn't the same as having the physical game on the table.
It's a co-operative heist game, very much inspired by Oceans 11 and that genre of films. Huge fun.
Only recently stumbled across Tim Fower's games. Interesting selection, most of which have also been released as Android apps. I own a physical copy of Hardback, which as a deck-building word game is a bit more niche.

Both of these are good.

We played King of New York today. It's actually quite different to King of Tokyo which we have. More opportunity to win through gathering point rather than all the monsters just bashing each other.
Also played Cobra Paw which my 5 year old absolutely loved. -

I own both King of New York and King of Tokyo, I think I play them both equally. KoNY is a better game, but KoT is easier for newbies to pick up.

NSFW Edition of Exploding Kittens.
How NSFW is it? ie will it been too embarrassing to play with my folks and MIL at Xmas?
-
• #466
It's more "rude" than "offensive".
Like, there's a cartoon naked person, rather than Cards Against Humanity Edginess. From Amazon:
Is it worth getting the nsfw deck or is it just gimmicky rudeness?
Answer: If you were only going to get one I'd get the original deck, unless you'll be playing it with a group that will be drawn to the rude sense of humour. I wouldn't call the rudeness gimmicky as personally I find the NSFW deck just as funny as the original, but there's no doubt that the original deck plays to a wider audience. The advantage to getting both is that with more decks you can play with more people, so it's worth considering buying this as well if you'll regularly want to play with more than five people. -

Cheers.
Seems a bit limiting for little upside. Think I'll give it a miss.
Telestrations After Dark on the other hand is definitely worth it... although probably not best played with in-laws, etc.

Christmas is coming guys.
Give me some recommendations for my kids (and me of course). They're 8 and 5 but play games 10/12yrs+ and 8/10yrs+.
Current favourites are Castle Panic, King of Tokyo and Takenoko. -

Thanks for those. We played Sushi Go at a boardgame cafe the other day, I was quite into it. I'll research the others.

Only 2 player, but I think Patchwork should be OK for them.
A friends nephew and nice loved Exploding Kittens - although the younger was older than your youngest.
Or Monopoly and continually whip their arses and take their money to teach them life lessons.

Ah yeah Patchwork is excellent.

Yeah Patchwork has been on my wishlist for ages. I just want to try it out in the boardgame cafe first as I'm green/brown colour blind and I thought that might be a problem. But every time I've suggested we try it out my kids think it sounds boring, especially when there's more exciting/violent themed games around.

Has anyone else been playing the Dark Souls boardgame? It's an absolute banger.
Also played a new one called Scotland Yard, where one player is on the run from the rest who are detectives, and they need to work out where on the board they are and catch them.
Future Risk and History of the world are good ones if your games of Risk normally take about 7+ hours.

a new one called Scotland Yard
New to you, perhaps, but that was Game of the Year in Germany in 1983. :)
Pandemic is definitely on our wishlist, mainly because it's good two player.
I'm always on the look-out for good two player games.
There's a new boardgames cafe opened near us, we'll visit it after the Easter holidays and hopefully pick up some new games.
