  • boardgame season kicks off again.

I'd be up for some FTTL - can't do Thursday though

  • Pandemic, best board game I've played in a long while.

Yes! I totally overplayed it though in the summer. I'm hoping for some more co-op games for Christmas : )

  • Yes I'm keen. Apart from the Thursday 16th evening (LCC AGM - I'm guessing you'll be there to Oliver).

    That'll be Wednesday 16th, Ben. :)

What about Monday 14th or Tuesday 15th, everybody?

  • What is FTTL?

    #boardgamenoob

  • That's it. It's a really good little card game, great fun.

  • Fancy a game before/after the AGM?

  • Can't do after, but before sounds good--if we can tear ourselves away from it in time. :)

  • Plan.

  • sorry to intrude on your thread, but xmas shopping coming nearer.

    Eh? Completely on-topic post.

I don't know this one. It looks a tiny bit like Sagaland, which children love:

I suppose it's worth getting the old edition--the new edition looks hideous, and the old board was drawn quite beautifully and a major part of the appeal.

  • Where's your post gone, starfish and coffee?

  • Are we going to manage one really decadent FTTL evening before Christmas?

We could do the Red Lion and Santa Maria in Ealing.

The game is easy to learn and fun from the word go, so you can join us even if you haven't played it before.

    Who's up for it?

  • I'm sure I saw a board game thread somewhere, so feel free to answer in there -but what does Rolemaster actually entail?

On another note, why isn't there a LARP thread?

Rolemaster isn't exactly a boardgame, but a pen and paper fantasy role-playing game. FRP games work by the interaction between a Gamesmaster (GM), who governs the game according to certain rules and can invent the particular adventure or scenario being p-layed, and some players. 3-5 players is a good number. Each player randomly generates a character by rolling dice for statistical attributes such as strength and developing skill values. Play then proceeds by the GM describing situations and players announcing what they want to do. Imagine it like Skyrim but with someone at its heart who thinks about what is going on and can be properly responsive and creative, with things being proceeding less mechanically, and with the good fun of an evening shared with people as opposed to sitting alone in front of a computer.

  • :)

  • A friend of mine goes LARPing. In Derbyshire. I've never been and I never want to. :)

  • Are we going to manage one really decadent FTTL evening before Christmas?

sounds fun. I'd be up for this in Ealing one evening

  • Great! Ben, Clara, are you up for one?

  • Possibly. We've been given notice on our pad so have to move by next weekend. So pretty busy with that. But after the 12th should be fine.

  • Hope that goes well! In the week after the 12th sounds good. I can't make the 13th or 15th, but the other evenings should be fine.

  • I am not around on the 18th, otherwise ok that week

  • Has anyone ever played the really nasty horse racing game. I used to play that with my brothers. Caused alot of arguments. Might try and pick one up for Christmas this year

  • Can you remember its name?

  • It's called "The really nasty horse racing game", it's based off of a classic... there's also "First past the post" (slightly shorter game).

Played Fresco recently, it's great (confusing at first, but great).

  • It's called "The really nasty horse racing game"

Sorry, bad attempt at a joke.

I hadn't heard of it, but a quick Google brought it up immediately.

It's either The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game .. or..

Escalado - which is fucking amazing..

essentially you create tension in the cloth by using vices to pin in down - then turn the handle at one end, which makes the cloth vibrate and the horses move down the 'course'... there are 2 'bookies' who offer different odds on the horses throughout and it is best played with real money, lots of people, shouting and booze!
