Free Bike tagging on Cally road this evening

I really wish they put it up somewhere, it would be a lot more helpful not just for us but for them as well.

the scheme in itself has nothing to do with the met.

it's a privately run, proprietary system for tagging and scanning. (it's brilliant too)

the issue is that islington police have purchased thousands of tags, and are giving them out at things like this via the safer 'hoods program. when they got into it, they bought scanners, which you naturally need to run the scheme.

the only places who have these scanners are enfield, edmonton and islington. they are encouraging all councils to sign up so it's hopefully met-wide, but it's fairly expensive, the scanners are nearly 100 quids, and the tags cost 4-5gbp each when bought by the thousands. better than the 12-14 it will cost you otherwise, but still a cost.

they had mentioned to me that since everyone has about zero funding, it's going to be hard to get all councils to adopt it, but islington, specifically the caledonian rd. office are trying their best to push it onto every bourough in london.

that being said, i got tagged, and i'm just registering my shit online right now! any extra advantage in the war on theft is rad to me.
