  • I think it may be time. That or as skully/teens have wisely said: do a thorough conversion. I was thinking that adding eyelets to a track frame that was built for 27s would probably provide the clearance and basic geometry i'm after wouldn't it? Could be the basis of a really nice project.

I guess i was just checking that i hadn't missed anything major that was available now. Looks like what i'm after isn't really offered as a stock frame anywhere so custom/conversion it is.

    Thanks peeps.

    P.s isn't pompino Italian for blow-job?

  • What about a condor tempo, takes 28c's with mudguards. 120mm spacing and rad geometry. Steel too.

  • i ment to say road, not rad geometry, but it kinda works.

Track ends with mudgards is shit if you get a puncture, you can't pull the wheel out.

  • That your sort of thing?

  • Dooks, Sammy has a point regarding the track-ends/mudguards combo. That's what I have and in order to take the wheel out I have to deflate it completely. Not the end of the world but worth considering nonetheless. + 1 for The Condor Tempo, you can get custom paint job for £££ extra.

If you rig up the rear mudguard with a spring, this is not an issue.

  • one on poacher?

Good going, I was going for a Surly Steamroller as a town bike, but this seem to fit the bill for less.

Oh yeah. That's super close. Take your point about the drop-outs and mudguards but it's not a major concern really. I manage now. The Condor is almost there and again, good price I think but as MC Nebula correctly predicted, yeah my favoured geometry and general aesthetic is towards the horizontal top tube and classic componentry.

However, having discussed this with the GF last night her (I repeat HER) idea was to get a shiny new if unspectacular OTP for now with the C2W monies, flog the old bike for parts while I work gradually on building up the holy grail custom order. What a gal!

I think P clips are an ugly solution, personally. It may not be a problem for you, but when there are plenty of bicycles in the world with the appropriate fixtures for mudgurds, why not use those if you want mudguards?

That jackson is nicely put together.

The thing with mudguards on rear-facing ends isn't really a big deal. Like you say, you manage now: how difficult is it to remove two allen bolts? Also: sjs sold me my first bike a few years ago, their 'winter bike'. They used the SKS quick releases commonly seen on the front mudguards on the back as well. A simple solution, lateral thinking innit. I actually had someone at London Fields Cycles tell me it was 'wrong' to use it there, it sure shut them up when I explained why they were actually a very good idea. Heh.

    They look like this:

For the record. BJ website states they will add eyelets to the Vigorelli at no extra cost. Not sure if that's possible for the off the peg frames, but certainly a free option on any custom order.

  • that bob jackson looks really, really nice

  • Hah isn't it funny that on another thread right now there's someone telling you about how to remove eyes from frames to make their old roadbikes more hip and fixieskidderish. I'd rather be in this thread.

  • Mudguards are the new cool. goes with next seasons geared road bike fetish.

I can see it now. For sale, one beautiful frame, forward facing drops, sadly, some stupid git filed the hanger off.

it's winter, I wouldn't be surprise half the bike here have mudguard.

    Swapsies!

I've all but given up on this C2W thing now. I've remembered why I didn't do it last time it came round, I just couldn't find any OTP that i liked enough to buy as a "nice to have". Probably find something if I really needed a bike. I've been on to the "special order team" again this morning and they're insisting that it has to a full bike, no frames.

Those bobs are verr nice indeed.

  • The other option is that Charge Plug Grinder (OTP-wise), althought it's a plain gauge tubing, it's still another option, only take a quick change of component to make it more of a path racer.

I'm pretty sure that since it has to be a full bike, surely that mean the bike shop involved simply order in the frame and put it together? that would be classified as a 'full bike' when the bike shop does the work for you.

  • Sorry Ed but I can't stand Plugs. I'm sacking off the C2W idea and am going to hang on for something narse framewise as soon as I can afford it.

  • i have no idea what your price range is, but ANT Cycles can do it for you exactly as you want. Better than you want, in all likelihood. It would cost you a pretty penny though. Wait times aren't bad at all, currently @ about 6 weeks.

here's the example thats been plaguing the internet of late.

    Good call.

I am of course a little biased ;)

  • just out of interest, what are current prices like for villiers?

i'm too scared to contact the man himself as i'll talk myself into another costly d.i.v.o.r.c.e.
