Not very hard to look after steel frame either way, old moderately used steel bicycles have been around for 50 years and still going strong.
Don't leave the frame outside and you'll be fine.
I'm inclined to agree with this. A bit of TLC and your steel frame will last. The only thing that would worry me, would winter riding on salted roads.

I heard/read that there was some durability issues with 953 and that the xcr was better material. But with out rememebering the frame builder/source of info it's of little help. [/internetexpertism]
Go Steel.
There's loads of oiks on ti recently.
We want our exclusivity back. -

I suspect it would be easier to build a stiffer frame from stainless steel. Looking at the material propeties. But there are plenty of uber stiff Ti frames out there, so its down to how you use the material then the material itself I imagine.

I'd always go for XCR over 953 for 2 simple reasons; it's Columbus, and it's Italian.

Eh ? That's like going for Campagnolo over Dura Ace despite the fact Dura Ace works better.

Really? I mean, you could build a stiff Ti frame, but why would you bother? I don't see any evidence of stock Ti frames being made uber stiff.

^^Assuming you mean Super Record/Elec?
Does it? I haven't compared them, but if you say so.
It's more like saying, I want a DA front mech not an Ultegra one, because even though I'll prolly never notice the difference I think it looks better.

If you were going by looks you'd never pick Shimano.

BANG!
I like things that work well, but a large part of bikes imo is based on romantic ideas and desires, I doubt that there is a great deal of difference between xcr and 953. For me Columbus = Cool and being Italian alwasy gives you a head start in the style stakes....
....even if, like most Italians, you fuck it up by dressing like a chav.

May I present to you...
The Guido

Not Italian though.
-
• #88
Most self-confessed Guidos aren't.
-
• #89
So why are you trying to make the comparison?

-
• #91
I don't get it.
-
• #92
Is posting a picture easier than explaining your position in words?
-
• #93
Damo, I'm guessing you prefer Campagnolo to Dura Ace.
-
• #94
No.
I have no preference.I'm just trying to work out, why you posted a picture of "guidos" in response to "italian". When "guidos" are New York/New Jersey Italian Americans.
-
• #95
It was in response to this:
....even if, like most Italians, you fuck it up by dressing like a chav.
-
• #96
Then, I stand by my point.
Why did you post a picture of "guidos" in response to "Italian"? -
• #97
Dude, read what I quoted.
"fuck it up by dressing like a chav"
= Guido
-
• #98
Ah. Read fail on my part.
(sorry Dude, I've been waiting until it's late enough to leave work)

And possible racism from me.
