I am working in Northampton. I have seen quite a lot of fixed gear about usually round the train station. I occasionally see the odd fixed gear outside my office as well.

And hello from me, I work at the uni and live elsewhere but stay overnight on my boat some weeknights and on some weekends. Often ride my 70s British Eagle fixie up from Billing to Moulton Park..always happy to meet up on a Monday night but I am not young, hip or a skidder...

^ Garethhon, do you ride a yellow single speed, the one under the walkway? i work @ the uni too, normally ride the GU canal, or BVW

Hey plugger - no, normal ride is a Silver British eagle fixie with old school mudguards and a rack. What campus are you at? Pm me an email address if you want to..

Slightly off topic, but can any Northamptonians recommend a good London - Northampton route (well ideally London - Rothwell but can probably work the Northampton - Rothwell bit out myself). I've seen the Sustrans 6 route, but a lot of this seems to be off road, and as am planning to do this in winter on 23s, I think road are safest. The only other route I've seen seems to involve a lot of the A6 - which doesn't appeal too much either.
Thanks!

KT - are you from Rothwell?! I might have to freak out about this...

KT, I've got a good Northampton-London route. I'm planning a forum(ish) ride up there in a few weeks. PM if interested.

That downhill out of Whipsnade is one of the best descents in the South. 39.9mph is my record...that pesky junction at the bottom always sneaks up on me.

Ooh yes - are you open to suggestions for dates? I see opportunities for combining forum ride and family duties ...
I have a London to Northampton route - 200m on A roads, and the rest is all fun, fun, fun, with the big whizzy downhill at Whipsnade.
I'll upload the Garmin route tomorrow for you.
Sounds fab - thanks!
KT - are you from Rothwell?! I might have to freak out about this...
My Mum is, and my grandparents still live there - we lived in Kettering for a while. Important Rothwell things to talk about at Ladies drinks tomorrow!

I used to live in Kettering too. All this talk of Northants and Rowell is getting me all nostalgic (kind of)...

OMG!!! No-one has ever heard of Rothwell, EVER! Let alone called it Rowell. You are a true native fo sho, finger_jockey! Do you remember 'Rowell Fair'?
KT - looking forward to it :) -

I never went to Rowell Fair because I came from Kettering (oh for those provincial inter-town rivalries), although I did know a load of skaters from Rothwell and Desborough so I was pretty familiar with the town. Remember the Charter? Not been there for a few years now though...

No, don't remember that. I moved out of Rowell when I was still quite young (moved to Rushden). But I did go back there a few years ago and was amazed that I could find my old street and the way from there to the infant school. Amazing what you remember still from all that time back.
-

Very true. I remember Rushden too (not Rushton), helped build the skatepark in that big park.
-
• #41
Spencer Park?
-
• #42
Could be. It's on the road that leads you out of town towards the bypass...
-
• #43
Ah, no, it's Hall Park.

Can't believe I've triggered a Northants nostalgia-fest!
So I did go to Rowell Fair - even though I was from Kettering. My Dad was from Wellingborough - not sure if that's better or worse.
Thanks for the route Tiswas. Am thinking I might do this on 11 Dec, if anyone fancies - assuming there's no snow / torrential, freezing rain.

KT - we have some serious Northamptonshire nostalgia fest happening later!
I lived (for all my sins) in Wellingborough as a teenager. Have to say, Wellingborough sucks though. -
• #46
KT, despite my continued efforts to confuse Nottingham and Northampton earlier tonight I'd be well up for riding this on the 11th.

Way up me ducks
I will* be doing this ...
on 11 December, leaving Brixton early (probably 7.30 ish) aiming to get to Northampton for half 2 ish. I'll be carrying on to Rothwell, cross-country (I had toyed with revisiting my ancestral haunts in Wellingborough and Kettering - but decided against it).
Dan - you're very welcome to join me.
Little Heather - if you fancy this, but not the miles, there are frequent trains Leighton Buzzard - which is on the way there. V happy to meet you there - but will almost certainly do this again in the spring, which will almost certainly be nicer
Northamptonians - apologies for the thread derail.
*If there is ice / snow / icy rain I will not be doing this. -

I'll skip this round of nostalgic visits. That's my birthday weekend plus I'm totally unfit and absolutely not ready for it! Up for the spring round though!
Yo! I moved back to northampton. Pm me
