  • Hey Big People.

As some of you may or may not know, I took redundancy from work, and am planning on travelling the world with a bike, for the next year or so.
This thread is for you to keep in contact with me, if I haven't invited you to the book of face group, devoted to my travels.
And also for you to give me:
hints/tips/suggestions/people to hang with/floors to crash on/forums to join/things I absolutely cannot miss, in the various locales I'll be seeing as I'm all over our glorious globe.

Below is my current itinerary, think of it as a work in progress, I know approximate dates when I'd like to be somewhere, but no tickets have been booked and its down to me renting my flat as well.

I'm hoping to leave these shores end of november, beginning of december. Don't worry there will be some sort of Bright Times inspired leaving party type thing, so you can bid me a fond fare thee well.

So put useful info here and I'll be forever in your debt.

    Current Rough Itinerary

    Tokyo - Osaka
    Hong Kong
    Thailand
    Melbourne
    Sydney
    New Zealand
    Buenos Aires
    Rio De Janeiro
    Barbados
    Jamaica
    Miami
    Los Angeles
    Las Vegas
    San Francisco
    Seattle
    Vancouver
    New York

  • as i said man - if you want a contaqct in rio, lemme know.

  • of course I want it big man, of course...

  • Likewise, I'll dig out Japanese label manager email address, but more likely to be via that antiqated medium of myspazz.

  • If you are ever without a bed all you need to do is turn on the cornelius charm and bang you're sorted.

    have a good trip.

  • Leaving Party at West's on the 26th then. There is no better way to start your travels then with a massive hangover.

  • A mate of mine is riding London-Sydney at the moment, and he's got loads of nights sleep via this site http://www.couchsurfing.org/.

Good luck, sounds epic - better than a job anyway!

  • When do you plan to be in Canada and how far afield do you plan to travel. A trip up the Icefields Parkway is definitely worth it if you have the time and if you're planning on doing some camping I have some advice on itinerary points.

  • if you want to investigate chicago or nashville or toronto, let me know. and when you're in new york.

  • When reading a map in Japan, North is not always on top. Instead it's from where you're standing. So better check for the arrow that indicates North to not get Completely screwed up with directions.

Also, should you happen to go into a Ryokan to do Onsen, make sure that you check for the Kanji signs before you enter the bath rooms. It often occurs that they swap female and male rooms to give you a chance to see both. Problem is if you cannot read Kanji, and you walk in naked until someone turns around and then runs out of the room in panic because they never have seen a Gaijin naked.

If you wanna see something properly weird, go to a foreign cuisine restaurant there.
For example their approximation of Italian will make you grin. Spaghetti with natto is available in some places, but it will nearly always be like some disneyland version of italy.

The food is great though, if you eat fish that is. If you don't eat Fish, you're vegan or Vegetarian without some fishy tendencies, don't go there, it's gonna be hassle and some more hassle. Everything is based on Dashi.

Oh yeah, also be prepared to feel out of place and too dumb to follow any social code properly. Hell, if it's school children they might even just stand there and stare at you.

Melbourne - I don't like it that much, so my tip would be: Get out of there and drive down to Great Ocean Road.

Sydney - Make sure you go to the Botanical Gardens. They're my favourite place ever. Fruitbats, Ibises, Open air cinema ...

San Francisco - Eat some Mexican food for cheap. Also, the drive up to the Chabot Observatory in Oakland is great! Nice woods up there as well.

  • Oh yeah, will be in Melbourne and Adelaide Dec/Jan, if you head that way just let me know and we catch up.

  • Tokyo - Osaka
    Hong Kong
    New Zealand
    Los Angeles
    San Francisco
    New York

With these, I can be of help.

Andrew, you are going to be missed.
I also might be in some of these at some point this coming year, so if the dates match we could catch up

  • Good luck and enjoy good sir.

  • If you only have enough money to reach Poland or Austria then I might be able to help you out there.

  • What? Y'ou mean we are going to have to move Saaf drinks every week, just to keep up with your travels?

You are the cornerstone of our motley crew; to say you will be missed is an understatement of George W Bush proportions.

And don't think you are escaping the Coach and Horses without a truly epic evening.

  • as i said man - if you want a contact in rio, lemme know.

It'll probably be a fit little rent boy

  • oh man, big news cornbread... wow, you must be so excited, i'd love to do this... lots of luck big man, we'll have a good party for you no doubt about that

  • Dude you better get yourself to SouthEasties tomorrow so I can buy you a beer!

  • +1

  • Corny, I'm going to be in HK on the 18th - 20th Dec if you are around. Would be good to catch up.

  • Hey Corny, could I join your facebook group? Me and my dad are going to do London-Japan next year and im always looking for similar minded people to look at their experiences. We cycled from Seattle to Bolivia a few years ago so if you need any info on any place between those two points give me a shout.

  • THis is the blog of a girl I know who cycled all down south america.
    http://www.topatagonia.co.uk

i will think about rio and buenos aires and come back with some tips

  • hey corny, if you get as far as east london .......

  • Got a problem with Africa?
