Thank you for writing to me asking ]me to sign a motion about cyclists. I am so sorry for the delay in responding. I am also afraid that this motion has now closed, as we are into the next Parliamentary year. However, I do agree entirely with the motion.

I am very concerned about these recent deaths. I am also extremely unhappy that the Mayor has closed the CVEU. It is hard to say how much of a factor this has been in the fatalities, but it is very worrying. At the same time, I think it is important that cyclists, particularly young cyclists, should wear helmets, and should have good training. Sadly, many accidents appear to happen when cyclists find themselves on the inside of a large vehicle, where they are much less visible, and are horribly exposed.

I support cycling, and am pleased that more and more people are travelling in this way, but I want this activity to be as safe as possible.

I know they can't be expected to reply to these instantly, but honestly, is a 4 week turnaround reasonable on something like a motion which has a deadline? (according to forum timestamps that's when you first wrote).

i got a letter, from my mp

"i share your desire to ensure the safety of cyclists is maintained. I do not beleive that an Early Day motion is the best way to draw attention to this issue. However i am writing to Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, to ask for his comments on the points raised by the motion itself.

i will be in touch as soon as i receive his response.
