  • Desire isn't getting it. The Desire S and Desire HD are not standard Desires.

  • Sorry I meant to say the S not the basic.

  • This looks like a stonking deals

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-capacitive-tablet-eken-t01-79-99-futeko-1167877

    running ICS too.

But only 512MB RAM means that it's functionality is compromised, no?

  • Right- if you want a very small phone, does that now mean you have to settle for a shit one?

Work gave me a 32 Gb iPhone 4S- so I've got a big smartphone.

What I'd like is to get a small but powerful phone that has a good battery life, and that can run a few applications.

  • Try this one

  • Xperia mini.

You'll need to upgrade the battery.

I've just got the xperia active (same as mini but tougher) rugged waterproofness.

  • Hmmm

My phone is now due an upgrade, spoke to t mobile. They can offer me the Motorola motoluxe for £20 pcm with 300 minutes unlimited texts and internet.

Is that a good deal? I don't really know much about the motoluxe.

currently have a htc desire £30 pcm with 600 mins, unlimited texts and internet.

  • Do you need those minutes? You can get the same phone for £231 delivered, and a £10 a month goodybag from Giffgaff would be 250mins and unlimited texts and internet. That's (just about) cheaper overall, and you're not tied to T-Mobile for a 2 year contract or waiting for their software upgrades. The Motoluxe is potentially getting ICS, so this may be a factor.

The phone looks a little mid-range, especially the 800Mhz processor, but the screen does look nice.

  • To be honest when I called that's what they offered me.

I'm not really that worried about all those texts, if anything I could deal with half that and still not go near it.

They told me I could have that for £20 pcm.

Not sure what other phones I could haggle for in that price range.

Also I thought that the phone had a dual core processor, that's going to be better than my htc desire isn't it?

  • Nope. Single core only and getting benchmarks around the Galaxy S: http://www.reghardware.com/2012/02/21/review_motorola_motoluxe_android_smartphone/page2.html

  • Ah balls - back to the drawing board then! I may even just cancel to be honest and go sim only.

  • That's what I did when I was waiting for the GSII. Sim only for a few months and keep an eye on HotUkDeals for a deal on the phone you want.

  • Theres not really any phone I want though that's the thing, an upgrade would be nice but I don't want to pay through the nose for it.

  • aparently the tf101 Transformer (pre-prime) is getting the ICS upgrade finally!!!

    http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/02/24/asus-transformer-tf101-ice-cream-sandwich-update-now-rolling-out-in-u-s-and-canada/

Its really nice. Much smoother than before with some nice touches that really integrate the system...
I still cant for the life of me get the damn thing to run ICS...

    :-(

  • Theres not really any phone I want though that's the thing, an upgrade would be nice but I don't want to pay through the nose for it.

You sound like the perfect candidate for sim only when your contract expires. Maybe by that time there will be a phone that floats your boat.

  • I think your right - I've rooted my phone so the bartering has just began with t mobile.

  • Actually this is the phone I want (sensation XE) - on the deal I've got too; but t mobile can't offer it to me at this price;

    http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobile-phones/HTC/HTC-Sensation-XE/T-Mobile/T-Mobile-21-(24mths)-Small-Internet/12790917

    That seems like a very good deal at that price;

    T-Mobile £21 Small Internet
    300 cross-network mins + Unlimited texts + 250MB Mobile Internet Browsing • 24 months
    £ 21.00 a month
This price includes VAT applied at 20%

  • That 250MB is a bit stingy. I'd haggle and see if you can swap the unlimited text for 1G net, unless you need the texts.

Show them this if you need ammunition: http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/pay-monthly/tariffs/htc/sensation_xe_with_beats_black.html?tsc=all,all,all,all

  • you can swap the texts I believe as they're an extra booster. Also that 250mb is streaming with t mobile, when you go over you can still browse the internet to your hearts content.

  • 24 month contracts suck.

On the other hand, I've had my SGS1 for 19 months and it's fine.

    Touch wood.

  • My Desire is on the last of its legs.

  • Considered viagra?

  • ICS for SGSII out now if you're on Three: http://www.eurodroid.com/2012/03/20/samsung-galaxy-sii-android-4-0-update-out-now-for-three-uk-users/

I'm not holding my breath for a quick Talkmobile update.

  • Completely undecided on a new phone - considering I've been with t mobile for the last 4 years they still won't offer me a good deal to stay.

Seriously considering just going sim only. But then I'll lose any discount I've gained over that time won't I? Or is that thing not so important now?

  • I have a year left on a 24 month contract, and getting fed up with my Desire constantly running out of system storage. I'm considering my options. Either sell it on and get something a little better to sort me out for the last 12 months of my contract, or root it and try and sort out the storage problem (moving dalvik cache and whatever else I can do).

If I were to go with the former, I'd be looking for a second hand phone in the £100 - £150 range. What sort of Android device would I expect to find in that range? Desire HD, Nexus etc? I'm unsure what would be my best "bang for buck" really. As long as it has similar or better features to the Desire...
