Isn't this what Apple watches are like? My girlfriend seems to charge hers pretty much every day.

I want to want one. For gadget sake.
But Garmin/Fitbit for fitness stuff and charge it once a week or twice every 3.
Phone for actual usable screen real estate stuff.
Headphones for voice assistant, no screen stuff.I kind of feel the same about mobiles these days. I'd happily drop 30% peak processor performance , reduce ram and storage for an extra half day of battery.

The latest Epix and Fenix have much improved screens and UIs now. The music and notification features are actually usable and battery life is still good. If the Garmin's were just about adequate as smart watches before, they're almost pretty good at it now I reckon. Twice the price of a Google watch though.

More than twice as useful with 6 times the battery life? Seems a bargain.

I got a Forerunner 255 a few months ago. Had no intention of using it as a watch - haven't had one for about 20 years - but am wearing it constantly. Don't have any experience of smart watches, but apparently you can answer incoming calls on the Garmin if you have a headset paired. No voice assistant, so no way to make calls as far as I'm aware.
Battery life is pretty good. Reckon I charge mine (when it's down to ~20%) every 10-15 days depending on how much I run - probabaly 80 min/week avg.

If you pair it with headphones with voice assistant built in, problem solved.

If anyone is after an android phone I'm selling a couple in the classifieds.
-

Hadn't considered that. Not really embraced voice assistant despite having loads of stuff with it.

Not a big fan of the under screen fingerprint reader on the Pixel, much prefer the fingerprint on the power button like the MI 10T Pro, much easier to pick it up and unlock it one handed.
Also forgotten the joys of signing in to apps when moving top a new phone.

The signal at home is really weak - any recommendations for cheap Androids with good performance in these conditions - have an old SE, reaaly bad.
-
• #22262
Personally I like the under screen one. Means I can unlock it whilst it is sat on a desk.

Have you checked to see whether there is a network that has better coverage in your home?
Most provide free or cheap sim cards so you can test...
For exaomple, in our part of SE10 we have virtually no O2 service, a bad Vodafone one but a great EE one.

Thanks - will try EE.

My daughter is 10 and screaming for a mobile for Christmas. Any suggestions for a good option with a sensible price:quality ratio?

My pair of second hand Pixel 4a?

Possibly though I'd probably try and convince her my pixel 2 is new in that case.

I'll have a 6a to sell later today. Edit: just seen you're looking for new...

I want to select and copy lots of passages of text from many pages in an Android application and paste it into a PC environment for processing. This is an ongoing need.
I'm thinking of getting an OTG adaptor to attach a wired mouse, then copying and pasting into a Google Doc that's also open on the PC.
Or is there a better way..?

just tried this on my pixel -
screenshot text page
open photos app
copy text
select all text
copy text to computeryou need to be signed in to chrome on the pc.
-
• #22274
Can't you just swipe up to the app tiles and copy the paste from there? Saves screen shotting.
-
• #22275
i tried that, but it didn't give me the option to copy text to computer.
when you open the screenshot in the photos app it uses google lens to identify the text.
It's a fair question, I don't want a smart watch but almost everyone in my office has an Apple watch, Samsung smart watch or equivalent so there's obviously lots of folk who like them. I guess it's for someone who wants the fitness tracking aspects but also wants the integration to their phone for calls, messages, music etc. This version can take an e-sim so you could go out for a run and still be contactable and able to make a call if you needed to etc cutting down the need to carry a bulky phone with you.
