  • I did find a security update waiting to he downloaded/installed.
Urging the update process to check again, I'm told this 6a is upto date with Android 12.
I can't really blame Google for prioritising the owners of the 6 & 6Pro.

  • I have a Pixel 4a and the update was available to 13. Select:

Settings > System update > Check for update

That should alllow you to manually update to 13 rather than wait for the push.

Edit: there is a possibilty the update to the 6a is delayed I guess but keep looking.

  • My 6a is on A13

  • Another 4a on A13 here, not a huge amount of noticeable differences

  • Any improvement in the GPS,
    or,
    was it always OK?

  • OK, I think my GPS (or location service) is maybe a bit slow.

I'm on a train from Zurich to Paris.

Every now and again I open G Maps to see where we are. At least half an hour between checks.

It seems to show me at the old location for maybe ten seconds before jumping to where I actually am. (Dijon, since you asked).

This may be slow GPS but also may be the more stringent battery optimization in A12 and A13. Much less now happens in the background unless explicitly asked for, so I may just be seeing the latency as opposed to it occuring automagically whilst I sip train wine and listen to TMS.

  • Another 4a on A13; I can see why Themed Icons is a Beta feature; if you turn it on all the Google-related App icons turn the exact same colour based on the wallpaper setting. This is not useful.

  • Haha yeah it's quite bad right now!

  • Anyone had success with a cheap Pixel 5 screen replacement? Rather than an official one?

Went to a little kiosk place yesterday and he didn't have a cheap version to fit and was trying to say it would die within a month anyway, but I think he was just trying to get a sale rather than giving me friendly advice.

  • This worked a treat, thanks! I was broom wagon on a course I haven't supported yet and wanted the backup of the GPS. Sometimes you are so far off the back of the race that you don't know where you are!

  • Is the pixel 6a @ £400 going to be the best bang for my buck if I want a good camera?

Still haven't replaced my OH's mobile and noticed that it's a bit under £400 on amazon now. Would prefer to spend £250, but was thinking about buying it as a sort of gift. The current one is >4yo so it doesn't seem like bad value when you look at it like that.

  • I would say yes. But I'm a total pixel phanboi.

  • This thread for quite a while now has only convinced me to avoid Pixel phones. I have been using the Android One OS on my last three phones, and I was looking at Pixels when I changed last. Funnily enough though, it was the Android.com website that convinced me to check out Oppo phones. Whilst the OS on them isn't quite Android One, it's not far off. They have no "bloatware". The spec and hardware quality are untouchable. For similar money, the Pixel phones are lacking.

I have an Oppo Find X2 Neo. It's awesome, but If I was buying one right now, I'd probably get one of these ...

  • I picked up an Oppo Reno 2 a couple of years ago for about £250. It's a good phone and still regularly gets security updates which is good for a cheap phone, also came with a case and screen protector. 256GB and micro SD card, I don't think I could go back to a phone with only 128GB and no sd card.

The main disappointing thing is the camera. It's good for landscapes and general pictures but doesn't cope at all well with fast moving stuff (mainly children), nowhere near as good as my girlfriends Iphone SE (of course that is a bit more expensive)

  • The camera on my Find X2 is excellent. I paid £196 for it on eBay about a year ago, as an open box but unused item.

  • I just checked Google store and am being offered estimated £200 trade in for my Pixel 4a against a 6a. You pay upfront and get a refund when the trade in goes through.

  • An iphone 6 (2014 model) comes up as £135 cashback. Pretty tempting but not sure if I actually want a pixel.

Edit: I also see that you agree to getting 75% or over of that value after they've assessed it. I wonder how many end up being valued at 75% ...

  • Hmm, Currys are doing an extra £100 off with your trade-in phone if you buy a 6a. Can even claim it on some very old ones

  • I have a Pixel 5 and pretty happy with it.

The camera is great and is the main selling point for me. Rest of it is just an android phone, it does what it does.

Previous phone was a OnePlus 5T which I liked a lot, but the camera on the Pixel is in a different league.

  • Can anyone point me in the direction of a comparison of the 6 and 6a that is based on use rather than just comparing the specs? I'm struggling to find one.

  • Yeah I saw the trade in. Pixel 2 tho. I idk how much we'd get. Shame about the low storage, I get the point, but I know my OH would just rather have 250GB.

  • £200 for a Pixel 6a by trading in your 4a for £200 sounds a stupidly good offer?

I wasn't planning on changing phones but...

  • Me neither but also now considering

  • My 4a is paid off a week before the 7 range comes out so I am torn.
