  • I've already been at work for an hour by then!! How is it?

Still super happy with the Pixel 5... Battery is great, lasts way beyond what I need in a day...

  • How's your fingerprint reader? Mine seems fine for logging in but not apps e.g. banking. 9 times out of 10 I can't access it. Wonder if it's just shoddy implementation from third parties? But would have thought they just need permission from the phone and don't do anything different with it. It's not like I've rescanned it for hsbc.

  • All good so far, nice upgrade from an S8.

Fingerprint reader in the screen is a revelation, doesn't require much accuracy and is very fast. Only complaint is the limit of four. Thumbs are obviously a necessity, but I've already found myself trying to unlock it with index and middle fingers.

    Haven't tried the camera yet.

  • No problems at all, just as good as the reader on my old Pixel 3... That's odd that you're having problems...

  • First minor annoyance with the S21, and it's something that's always been an issue on my S5 tablet.

Mail notifications from Outlook seem to take ages (as in minutes) to arrive, where they were always instantaneous on the S8. The two newer devices seem to be using a more recent version of Outlook (on the S8 there's none of this 'focused inbox' bollox).

Feels like mail isn't being pushed, but I can't find any settings related to that in either the app prefs or individual account settings. Google not much help unfortunately.

Might look at alternatives, any recommendations? Only really use it for reading, very rarely send from the phone.

  • I've just got a pixel 5. Please can someone help with a really stupid question? On my old phone, I used to use Google photos as a backup and my gallery as my main thing - manually syncing photos each year and deleting them. So not getting the most out of Google photos. I don't want to pay to back up original copies of photos - high quality will do I think. So will the photos app on my phone keep the original quality and I can sync these to my computer if I want to extract the original quality photos? Cheers

  • Oh great an £1800 phone I never ordered was just delivered and then someone attempted to do the "accidental delivery" fraud 5 minutes later.

O2 had tried to stop it being delivered but too late but it's been bricked remotely.

  • Any had an issue with their toolbox'd Fire Tablet where it gets stuck on the pin screen and you have to reset it to get in?

    Fire 8 HD+

The pin being entered is 100% correct.

But after hitting enter it just goes back as though nothing has been typed in.

It's fucking impossible to Google as everything is just about pin reset.

    Cheers.

  • Follow up question I guess is if I've used the toolbox is there any help I can get from amazon?

  • I need a baby monitor and have a load of spare old 1st and 2nd gen moto g phones as well as a coupe of old tablets.

I thought about trying to use a RPi and some banggood security camaras I spare, but a quick look says a smart phone already has everything I need 8n one place with bettet audio.

    Anyone done similar?

  • Yeah I used one, but only for audio. It did video, but I wasn't interested.

Had a good app which I paid a small subscription for.

Will try to remember the name of it.

  • Dormi.

    That was it.

  • Not that that issue, but there have been also quite a very updates to the toolbox I note. I'd be more tempted to post in the thread on XDA as they seem very helpful

  • Good shout. Cheers.

OH asked about sending it back to Bezzi. Not sure if that is still an option.

  • Is anyone else having problems with notifications on Android 11.

Specifically I'm not getting WhatsApp notifications on pixel 4a.

And if so is there a fix?

    Cheers

  • Is Whatsapp being force closed due to battery optimisations? That's the first thing I normally check for this kind of thing.

  • Have you accidentally turned off notifications for said app?

I have done this by mistake when swiping away a notification.

  • Thanks both. Tried a couple of things and clearing cache and storage in both WhatsApp and Google Play store apps seems to have fixed it.

  • Sup all.

If you're having issues with apps crashing. Gmail, duckduckgo. Not all.

it's the latest os update to WebView

The way to fix this is:

  • The bug seems to be impacting all Android apps that use the WebView system component. Google apparently pushed out a bad update to WebView, resulting in Android app crashes.

  • Go settings > apps > tap the three dots in the top right corner > show system apps > search for Android System WebView > select Uninstall updates.

  • My mother has asked for an Android smartphone for her birthday- she wants very simple and easy to understand as she has never had one before (she is 75), also she may not be able to get along with it, so affordable would be nice- what would the forum hive mind recommend?

  • I don't know how good it actually is but most Samsung phones seem to have an "easy mode" for just this requirement. Maybe the lower end Samsung's have it? If it's good, perhaps something to consider.

  • Mum is a decade older and is getting on pretty well with a Nokia 3 after resisting the switch from candy bars until less than a year ago
