I am getting a pixel XL on upgrade day. 10 days and counting. I've already bought a fistful of USB C cables in preparation.

The good ones are sold out and a new one comes out within 6 months.
Can you wait?

Which are the good ones?
I'm getting a 32gb XL, but it is via EE. I'm just hoping it doesn't come pre loaded with 7.11 so I can unlock the bootloader.

GF lost her phone in Glasgow Sat night - was more concerned with losing the Micro SD card installed, with all her photos on it - luckily it was handed in to the Police by the driver of the taxi she dropped it in and she got it back (Android find my device came to the rescue)
So that has lead me onto investigating SD card encryption methods and apps - can the hive mind help with best option(s)? Ta

Android can encrypt the SD card, no apps needed.

But having them not encrypted might lead to more chance of having the phone returned.

Anyone on here got an HTC V20? Not actually available in the UK but looks to be a lot of phone for the £ and runs on all the UK networks apparently...

^^Encrypt and include pertinent contact info on the lock screen.
-
• #18385
Is there an Android way of showing contact stuff on the lockscreen or is this a manufacturer option?
-
• #18386
I think it's a standard android feature. Typically found in the security/lock screen directory. Info has to be entered in manually, although I seem to recall an older device that offered to display user info automatically on the lock screen.
In android 7.1, click on the settings wheel next to 'Screen Lock' (under Security in Settings).

I encrypted my phone the other week and it screwed up the sd card so be aware of that and back up before encrypting.
If you adopt the SD card as internal storage it will automatically encrypt it (but it is only readable by that phone unless you root your phone and find the key and then you can, in theory, mount it in linux).

The new oneplus' are out in the summer?

When you loose your phone log into your Android Device manager and "lock" your phone.
One of the options will be to put in a no. to call and a msg. They can then call that no. from your phone.
Friend pointed out that it's worth logging into your Android account from your significant other's phone so you can white list it.

Ah, found it. I was looking under Display settings. The Sony has a Lock screen message option.
-
• #18391
I see, I've never used that.

• #18392
Yeah, me neither. Useful though.
My mate's phone was nicked and in one magical moment real life conversations and virtual ones came together.

perfect I didn't realise this - thanks!

Yeah, when my new phone synced to my Google account the lock screen said penis, just like my old phone.

Anyone using a Google Home thingy, if so how do you get it to stop playing Spotify? Pretty impressed with it so far.
-
• #18399
Say 'Hey Google. Stop playing Spotify'?
I assume you want to use another service for streaming music? Use the Google Home app on the phone to choose the service you want.

Ha ha, you would think saying that would work, but it didn't. Ended up as you suggested using the phone to kill he connection.
Will do more investigation.
Need a new Android Tablet for the house. Recommendations? A 10" would be nice but not essential. Also, I don't want it to be too spendy.
