  • My HR strap is Garmin and uses ant+. Z3c is one of the rather few phones that does ant+.

    ipbike is an amazing app.

  • Dropped my Z3 Compact on concrete, insurance gives me a new one. My 3rd Z3 Compact - love that phone.

  • eGlobal are fixing my N5x... Finally!!

  • Z3 seems to have intermittent issues with Bluetooth LE. I'm going another route.

  • Anyone have any experience with Samsung Xcover phones? They're Samsung's hardened phones. v4 is coming out in April and it might be a nice swap for the Sony? Thoughts?

  • Looks like it does everything that z3c does, except it doesn't do ant+.

  • I didn't even know the Z3C did ANT+ until you mentioned it so that's no biggie.
I like the idea of milspec durability but not the bigger screen so much. It does have a bigger battery to compensate though.
I wonder how much Samsung bloatware is on it?

  • Need a new phone recommendation.

my contract is up on my S6 but not sure if there's anything out there worth getting now or if I should grab a pay as you go monthly sim and wait for the next batch of phones to come out instead.

anything really worth looking at right now or in next few months?

  • It's all much of a muchness nowadays. I'm using an 18 month old mid tier phone and it's perfectly fine. Unless your current phone is really giving you pain then just stick with it.

  • Bought the small ant+ ip68 4.6" Samsung A3 2017, no hiccups so far.

  • I just hacked up a cool integration between my android wear watch, my phone and my sonos system.

I can now shake my wrist, speak "broadcast some message that I don't want to shout upstairs" and the Google Voice says "some message that I don't want to shout upstairs" from the sonos up there.

    Next level star trek shit.

It took four apps (autowear, autovoice, tasker, macronos) and some programming-fu.

I figured as much. only real wrinkle is my mum is on a super limited income and usually takes my hand-me-downs and her phone is falling apart so upgrading would help her out and wouldn't cost me any more than I'm paying now. but if there's a game-changer coming out before summer then it would have made sense to wait for a little bit at least.

the s6 is easily the best phone i've owned and after 24 months still functions perfectly so may wait for the s8 to future proof things for another 2 years (or go back to iphone as I use a mac and ipad pro so would work better with those).

  • I see that.

Real reason is that I've given up drinking and now have more time on my hands than I know what to do with. Insomnia + clear head = stupid productivity. Emphasis on stupid.

  • Insomnia + alcohol = stupid long bike rides * shouting * procrastination

  • Power saving mode on my Galaxy S7 seems to have stopped gps working when it's locked. This is fine, if they told the user it did this. Instead it's described as switching off 'mobile networks'. Bleh.
Anyway, if anyone is wondering why a run/ride is only registering as 1 or 2 points, this might be why.

Anyone with a device like that in the pipeline is planning to launch between early October and late November. They want the Christmas sales and for Black Friday to have cleared out older lines.

If you must buy in the next few months, just buy now.

  • aren't they also controlled by the release/availability of the new processors/screens though?

seems like the s8 launch today and the upcoming lg are the next big steps for their respective brands and they have been waiting for the chips to update the lineups.

  • I have absolutely no idea why I stuck with iphones for so long.

Android on Pixel is a revelation.

Widgets are exactly what I've always wanted but never knew existed except without much faffing on Linux. A built in, interactive calendar on a homescreen rather than having to open an app. A button to tap on a homescreen that automatically logs hours and creates a spreadsheet with times, clients and project names. Life - changed.

  • Welcome to the gang. You won't look back.

  • S8 looking pretty good so far on the keynote.

  • total #buyer. just pre-ordered the s8+

should arrive on the 20th april.

  • nice, it does look good. Although I would get the new Xperia over it.

  • Power saving more does way more than that. It also prevents apps from doing background data to check for updates and limits the CPU speed.

  • Yep, but the powersaving screen told me it would do all of those things. Nothing about GPS.
