https://viaforensics.com/product-updates/viaextract-pattern-lock-decoding.html
But this needs the phone to be exploited in some way first in order to get the key file at which point, why bother? If you have access to the phone's filesystem you don't need the pattern lock.

Indeed, the chase is over for me, too. I no longer feel like I want the fastest baddest handset anymore. I don't make that many calls and getting 3k mins per month is a waste. Vodafone have twisted my nipple one time too many by not keeping to a promise they recently made and I'm at the end of my contract. Plus the amount they charge for data useage is a complete rip off- despite being with them for about 12 years.
I thought about staying strictly behind the curve and going with giff gaff and just buying handsets that are a few months old but Reen suggests not going with a provider that can do 4G would be an error. The only things I use my phone for are: maps, reading calendar/emails and light browsing. for these things I like a big screen.
Any thoughts?

I'm a fanboy as I have one but any of the Sony Xperia Z series phones are great. I'm using the original Z which came out at the beginning of last year and it doesn't lag or slow down or freeze or anything. The screen is not too big and not too small and decent quality. The camera is pretty decent and the waterproofing is a bonus. It still gets the latest versions of Android too.
I've only managed to put one tiny scratch on the screen and that is because it was in my jersey pocket with a small knog light with a metal clasp. You can pick them up for ~ £130 now too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-XPERIA-Z-16-GB-Black-EE-Smartphone-Excellent-Condition-/171501335432?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones&hash=item27ee46b388.
Pay £13+vat a month for a sim only contract with unlimited texts, 500 minutes and 500mb of data from EE and you can't go wrong.

Ta. I understand that you should get three, but it can take a month or two to get them.
If one was to find it's way to me, I would be very grateful, My Galaxy Nexus is starting to feel a little long in the tooth.

Can't really face a bigger phone, currently have a HTC One (m7) with a 4.7 inch screen. Are there any similar size phones on the horizon or should I get a z3 compact?

My last renewal with Vodafone they gave me unlimited texts & calls plus 4GB of 4G data for £15 a month, sim only year contract. I didn't even haggle for that, it was just offered to me (I hadn't even called them to renew my contract, I was querying something else)

500MB on a 4G network? U mad bro?
SIM only on Three should get you All-You-Can-Eat (crazy high limit not some bullshit fair use level) data for about the same amount.

Don't think 3 have a limit at all. The only truly unlimited internet I thought

Don't think 3 have a limit at all. The only truly unlimited internet I thought
I can verify that with an anecdote.
My father's only internet device, and in fact his first internet device, is a HTC One on a 3 plan.
He listens to US radio stations for most of the day, and watches about 2 hours of YouTube HD movies each day on weightlifting (my dad is... big, in the muscular way, arms bigger than my thighs and so on).
I've asked him how much data he uses, and it's something like 6-7GB every month. He's been using that for over a year now, and 3 just don't mind.
He only pays a little over a tenner per month, I think he's on their SIM-only contract.

I regularly do >2G/month on Three's "One Plan"

What is all-you-can-eat data? - Support - Three
All you can eat data gives you worry free internet use. Even if you used your phone for every minute of every day you could only use, subject to TrafficSense™, around 1000GB each month. We may use this cap to identify inappropriate use of the service, such as commercial use, which isn't permitted under our terms and conditions.

The only issue I had with 3 was that their tethering package is more expensive. With Vodafone any use is OK so long as you don't go over 4GB

I got 4gb free with my contract so I have 6gb Internet 4G with Vodafone. They give 20% off to employees of my company too so got a pretty good deal. Spotify premium free too.
Xperia Z1 free, unlimited minutes and texts, 6gb 4G, Spotify premium for £32 a month -

Still go over every damn month

Three's 1 month rolling sim only contracts aren't that cheap. I've been paying £18/month for 200 minutes, unlimited texts, and "all you can eat" data. 200 minutes just isn't enough for me, to go up to 600 minutes (the next step up), it's £23/month.
If you disregard the fact that I'd be tied down for 24 months, it's only £10-£11 more a month for most brand new Android phones on Three on the same tariff. So I'd effectively be getting a brand new phone for £240-£264 spread over 2 years. I'm now beginning to question whether buying a phone outright actually makes more sense.

The All-you-can eat sim-only contracts include 4GB of tethering according to the website.

Managed to wrangle a 1+1 invite last night. Their forums are a bit weirdly weighted to competitions to get invites.
Quite looking forward to shifting back to cyanogenmod from stock android to be honest.

What happens when you want a new phone after 12 months?
-
• #15299
So you're buying another phone outright. Defeats the purpose of buying on contract then as you still have to pay out the old phone.
Also, if the provider is shit or if you move in the two years and find they don't have good coverage, you're still stuck with them or an expensive pay out.

What happens when you want a new phone after 12 months?
Buy a new phone?
eg. £34/month for Z3 Compact (£23/month on tariff)
sim free price: £350If I decide after 12 months that I want a new phone, sell the Z3 compact for ~£175, over the course of 24 months I'll have paid a net of under £100 for 12 months ownership of the Z3 compact and I'll have £175 cash in my hand to put towards the new phone.
Dear phonemakers,
I do not want a bigger phone.
Thanks.
