Sooo... An gossip on the Nexus 5? I hear it's either an LG G2 or it might possibly be a motorola device. That's pretty vague, of course.

I've got/had both.
The Galaxy Nexus screen was more vivid and saturated, it artificially boosted colours to make it look better. It's not better.
The glass back is the only thing I can fault. I've thought of putting insulation tape on the back on more than one occasion.
So, we're hitting 50/50 in the Nexus screen comparison and 100 for the GNex case. Anyone else?

Are the Google play editions of the gs4 and HTC one available over here?
When I looked it was only US.

Turn it off and on again. But before doing that, uninstall Tasker.
Problem solved.

I'm tempted by the N5 if they stick to the pricing of the current N4 as some are saying they will.

being slowly pulled down the rom rabbit hole.
today i unlocked my bootloader
installed a recovery image
rooted the phonethen I find out the stock kernel doesn't let you write to system so just had to replace the kernel with a custom one
bloody lost the settings i've spent the past 2 weeks honing to my tastes though... balls.

Only $20,000,000 short with 6 days to go
And some android news -
http://motorola-blog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/hello-skip-goodbye-pin-introducing.htmlBasically a NFC chip that pairs with the phone to unlock it - that you can clip to your belt etc. Personally I see the sticker versions being more helpful - for a desk/at home etc etc

If my Huawei G300 wasn't quite as shit as it is, I'd have waited for the N5 as well, but alas no.Given how difficult it was to get hold of the N4 at launch, I'm happy to get the N4 now and wait and see what happens with the next gen.

- Not enough geeks out there
- Not enough geeks that want to dual-boot their phone with two crappy OSs. Now if they had've offered DOS and NeXT

- Not enough geeks out there that want to prepay the full rate months and months before they maybe receive the phone.

They've still broken the crowdfunding record, which is admirable in itself.
More importantly, a lot more people know about Ubuntu Phone now than they did two weeks ago.
-

Failing to raise is not breaking a record.
Unless I've missed something.

one of the reasons i'm rooting my phone is to enable both nfc reading whilst the phone is locked and the ability to switch pattern lock off and on so i can essentially do the same thing with any nfc chip.
i dont intend to use nfc for payment stuff so the security concerns are not that bad.

The YubiKey has had that feature for a while:

I like that.
Only problem is... would the phone still fit in the snug Murtle case? Not sure I want to risk it.
My Murtle case isn't all that tight so I'm not sure, but the additional thickness is pretty minimal.

Calling Dick Tracy. Calling Dick Tracy.
Samsung have smashed it.
-
• #12347
Really?
Try imagining doing any function on that phone/watch.
Reading a message over a curved surface?
How do you reply?
Make a call? With your left wrist over your right ear (try swapping listening ears with a normal phone if you think you're going to put it to your left ear)?It may be a perfectly good idea to have nothing more than a remote display device on the wrist, but the fact that they think it's going to be used for contact management and messages shows they've basically misunderstood the usage patterns.
A wrist based device is nothing more than a dumb consumer of information, with operations that by necessity need to be extremely simple and have few controls.
I think it's far more likely that the quantified self stuff, the iPod and media controls, and only basic notifications (which is different from messaging) is used there.
Samsung haven't smashed it, instead they're deeply confused about the usage patterns and are throwing shit at the wall hoping something will stick and show them the way.

Lol! You're funny VB. It will still sell, and to people that have a phone for all the main functions. It's a novelty, but as such, it's better than the others before it.
-
• #12349
It's a novelty
Yup, that's pretty much my view of it.
Hardly "smashed it".

We shall see won't we.
The Xperia M is out next week. 4" screen, Dual Core 1GHz processor and 1GB memory running Jelly Bean. Okay it is closer to £200 than £100, but then I can finally go sim only. The money I save over the contract will get me the new Nexus 7 with LTE.
