  • Getting pretty good battery life on my Nexus 4, Juice Defender is working a treat... I recharged yesterday morning and still on 24% now...

  • So nice to have the latest OS for a change...

Yep, once you go nexus its hard to go back. Having said that, the shit camera on this gnex makes me want to change phone. How is the N4's camera?

  • Not bad if you know how to use it.

  • That's a bit cryptic. How tricky can a phone cam be?

  • Tricky is where to point it, choosing the best light and when to do click.

  • :-)

  • As people are taking music formats, what's the best (i.e. simple, quick) way to convert WAV to MP3 files? I've tried with VLC but managed to cock it up everytime.

    If you're on Windows I'd say EAC ( http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ )

It's for ripping CDs, but also comes with a menu option to batch convert a load of WAV files to whatever your chosen compression is (MP3 by default).

Once installed you'll find the option under: Tools > Process WAVs

Juice defender is worth it then?

  • I'm getting similar battery life without it, so perhaps not.

The biggest use of battery remains the screen.

I personally like using LightFlow, which on the Nexus 4 will change the LED indicator to different colours depending on the type of notification. Which means I turn on the phone less frequently, as I only now turn it on for important notifications rather than every notification.

  • It's free!

  • I'll try both out. why not eh?

  • I tried it before, can't see what difference it made, careful set-up and usage usually make a bigger difference.

  • Anyone used DSLR Controller app?

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.dslrcontroller&hl=en

Going to give it a try over the weekend.

Any Good? I'm looking for something to use with a D300 and a nexus 7, but not sure which remote DLSR app will be compatible with that combo

  • I'm using Easy Battery Saver to good effect - just choose the default Intelligent mode - turns off mobile data and a whole bunch of other stuff until you pick the phone up again and it comes back up

if mobile data doesn't respond, flick flight mode on and off normally sorts it.

    1 day 23 hours 41 mins 21 seconds on battery - still 57%

I don't have a USB host link cable (if that's the correct name) to work with my Nexus 4, but I do have a Motorolla specific cable so I've had a quick play about on my Xoom. It works pretty well with my EOS 550D. Quite impressive, but I've only had a 10 minute poke about so far.

  • Tasker is good for battery saving tricks once you get the hang of it.

Mine does stuff such as automatically turning GPS on when an app requiring GPS is launched and then turning it back off when you close. Similarly, wifi turns on when I get home and turns off when I leave the flat.

I use DBPower Amp for converting to mp3, etc. It's good but you've got to pay for it after the trial.

If it's just one big wav with a cue file then I use CUETools to split it first.

  • Audacity does all that for free

    Cheers both. Sorted now.

  • Juice defender is worth it then?

It can work well if you're not too busy with your phone. If you constantly chat, use the net, e-mail then it isn't too good. It turns off Wifi and Mobile Data when the screen is off, but there is a slight delay obviously. That can be annoying because sometimes the phone goes a little funny if it's doing that every few minutes.

Also I use my widgets and they don't get updated until you get a connection. Definitely recommended if you aren't on your phone so frequently.

As Velo said, the screen takes up the most battery.

  • HTC One

    So any good?

  • Looks to be. Usual gripes of no SD card but with an option of 64GB, that's moot

  • It's a skinned Android... avoid.

Unless you like that kind of thing... pervert.

  • CyanogenMod it.
