By the way MrsSmyth did you know Canon have just announced (yesterday) a 24p + 25p firmware upgrade for the 5D !!! (but not available for 3 or 4 months).

yes. seems a bit odd for wait though. it's just a bit of code.

how the blimey does this all work then? How can a DSLR be used to shoot video?

Seems to be the future, met a guy called Christopher Miller out in Canada who was shooting HD on a DSLR. He gave me a card but his website isn't up yet, he just has this on Vimeo.

pixel binning and processors that are used to dealing with large amounts of data as chip sizes have increased (mpixels not physical size).
video dimensions are HD 1920x1080 whereas the 5dII is 5616 × 3744 so not a massive file just 30 exposures per second.
