Presta or schreader?
Have a set of wheels mavic a119 rims. They’re drilled for schreader but I’ve always used them with the little adapters and presta tubes. I’m putting larger tyres on them so need to buy larger tubes so could buy either presta or schreader tubes. Any reason to choose one over the other?

Rotating weight might be similar if you're using an adapter, for simplicity's sake I'd go with Schrader.
https://www.bikeradar.com/features/this-is-why-its-time-to-stop-using-presta-valves/
As an aside, I didn't get on with A119 rims, had trouble truing them and actually caused a stress pull on one (looking like a 3/4 circle around a spoke hole). I'm a rank amateur but have had no problems with rims from Sun/Ringle, DT Swiss and Velocity. -

Strange you say that about the truing, I had them built on DA 7600 hubs (strange choice I know) and they went out of true all the time, rebuilt on other hubs (Tensile front, Novatec clone rear) and they've been much better.
Think I've always used presta in the past as a hangover from narrow 'road' wheels n stuff but since I'm starting from scratch buying tubes for these I think I will go schreader.

They used to, but I think they changed to a 42mm chainline a few years back.

Yes. We got some Diall branded ones from B&Q. They are ok, but you'll probably get more choice of colour temp eleswhere.

Lost the fucking thing now. Put it down somewhere. Sigh

I wanted to join / mix the stereo audio output of two mp3-players / iPhones etc. and send it as one stereo signal to an amp / to the line-in of a bluetooth box.
I got this: https://www.thomann.de/gb/art_splitmix4.htm
It's pretty good, very solid, no noise (it's completely passive).
My only gripe is the signal drops severely, I add a little headphone amp and that works more or less.
What I am looking for is something that does the same thing, but only need two stereo channels, something that ideally has a crossfader, but that isn't as shit as the "mini party mixers" I see on the net are apparently.
Sound quality should not suffer no matter how high or low one of the inputs is dialled.
Would be fine if it needs it's own power as where I'm using it there will be sockets anyway.Any ideas?
Thanks! -

Is this one of the
shit mini party mixers
You were talking about? Looks alright to me

Think I saw that one yet didn't look closer as I don't need the EQ (more stuff that migh break).
Will take a look, thanks. -

Is there a database somewhere with the with/depth / whatever you’d call it of different threaded cogs so you can figure out where your chainline is going to be without trial and error ?

Does this help?

• #99465
potentially - i know that database - but it's a bit awkward where chainline isn't given

After some bearings for RS-81 rear hub. Got some off eBay (seller sold thousands and ordered the "WH-RS81 1/4" rear hub" from drop down but lo and behold they're waaaay too big. Anyone know which I need to go for? Don't have Vernier calipers!

Where are you? I’d assume you have a bearings shop within 5 miles, but never thought to go there.
Whenever I need some, I have taken along a couple bearings in a baggy to mine and they measure up on the spot.

of course, that makes sense - rural Cornwall but know my LBS well who may have some laying around, else are there any national retailers (Halfords, Wickes etc) who may stock? -at least my LBS will identify what size I need exactly, to have another go at ordering online.
Many thanks -

LBS should have a small set of drawers or a compartment case full of them. The ‘good’ one of the half dozen or so bike shops in Swindon does, except I know they buy them from the bearing shop, so I just go direct.
Edit: shit me, is it like 50 miles to the nearest bakery too??

Don't have Vernier calipers!
That's the first thing you need to fix.
Second, you need to learn how to google https://www.google.com/search?q=wh-rs81-r+ev+pdf which tells you the balls are 3/16"
-
• #99473
Yes I'll be dealing with both issues immediately. It was actually my my poor googling technique that had me seeking the quarter inch ball bearings, albeit not helped by by the eBay seller also pointing me very much in that direction by the fact that the the drop down menu when selecting rear said quarter inch. Many thanks and all the best

How well do these water filter bottles actually work? https://www.lifestraw.com/products/lifestraw-go
I've seen various things saying they're great and then other comments that they don't protect against viruses and other stuff but I've no idea how much of an issue that is.
