  • However the correct answer is disc brakes

  • Is there much difference between between Adamo’s tt and road saddles and am I likely to feel the benefit of one if my position isn’t particularly aggressive?

I run a Fabric Tri saddle on both my road and TT bikes as I find them so comfy and I wouldn't say my road bike is particularly agressive. I've got a spare Adamo you can have for cheap if interested?

  • Well I'm pretty hairy. I will give it a try and report back.

  • I've got a spare Adamo you can have for cheap if interested?

    I’ll pm you.

  • Anyone else doing a ride roughly 25 miles long around central London finishing near Buckingham Palace this Sunday morning?

  • Fairly obtuse but..

The thin plastic tubing that carbon frames use as internal cable guides - any ideas what it is and/or where to source something similar?

Just stripped down my carbon roadie and it’s full of gunk, sadly the rear derailleur cable was seized in its plastic tube so the whole lot has to come out. I should be able to insert a new one without too much bother if I can find something appropriate.

Also, what do we think, just cover the cable to remove as much friction as possible or try to epoxy it inside the frame? It’s only a cheap ribble so I’m not too precious about doing daft things like this as long as it means I can ride it!

  • Anyone have any experience of cheapo (£20 or so) ultrasonic cleaners? Do they actually work? Mainly for stuff like spectacles, watch bracelets, etc?

Thinking of this one maybe which looks convenient but may also be shit https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07FH7VWDT/

  • I had one which came through the till at around £120.00
I recently gave it away as it had proved to be a disappointment.
    Disappoinment =Failure to clean stuff.
G'luck with the 20 quid jobbee.

  • I've got a £12 Aldi special from around ten years ago.
It does none of the things claimed on the box. Not one.
However, it's quite good for small parts in a jam jar of solvent (with the lid on, to contain the vapours) sitting in the water bath - absolutely against all the safety warnings on the box.
Carburetor parts in IPA seems to be the main thing I use it for, which may be the only reason I've not thrown it out of the nearest window.
Edit: IPA = isopropyl alcohol, not India Pale Ale.

  • I'd guess at some form of polyethylene, as it's self-lubricating under pressure. Same stuff they use to make gas pipes and milk bottles.

  • Edit: IPA = isopropyl alcohol, not India Pale Ale.

    ah ok

  • Do I need to buy another Aventon Mataro to get a replacement seat clamp? The bike fits great, but the existing clamp is crumbling to dangerous levels. They are out of stock everywhere, I guess because these are not the most popular of bikes.
    One of these:

  • BLB is the distributor of Aventon in the UK and Europe, have you emailed them?

    From Aventon's website:

BLB can supply any product that Aventon makes.

  • I will now! Thanks!

  • Permethrin kills the horrid wee feckers and it's a good repellent for next time.

I use Johnsons 4 fleas spray on my trainers, gaiters and shorts for off road runs

  • How screwed am I?

Sold a frame on eBay, zero feedback buyer, but lots of very specific questions made me think he seemed legit. Sent it via parcelforce and then get an email from ebay saying they'd cancelled the bid and he was a suspicious buyer and I shouldn't send the item (4 days after he bought it, brilliant) or try to stop the delivery.

So I go onto Parcelforce, the live chat person says they will try, but it's not always possible due to the number of parcels. So I check the tracking and it's hard to tell what's happening, decide to give them a ring where the guy tells me it's illegal to not attempt delivery once it is in their system before eventually telling me I can talk to the delivery depot, but no one is picking up so he's going to email them my number.

    I hate ebay.

  • Before ebay did that, did you already update the tracking details on the auction sales page? Already withdraw the cash from paypal?

I’d say you should kick off to ebay/paypal if they try reverse the money.

Parcelfarce people are absolute nonces. If it is in their system and not yet delivered you can totally get it stopped and returned to sender. You must be very clear that is is suspected fraud, and that they must ‘stop and rts immediately’.

When I worked for a particular courier company on customer service we had this happen dozens of times a day for one of the big online stores. Sometimes it was already delivered but often it was possible to get the depot to cancel and rts.

Keep calling up and get them to sort their shit out.

  • Thanks, I did think it sounded mad, but he was very insistent it was against the law until I told him that the online chat person had said otherwise. I will try the fraud angle.

I had added the tracking to ebay before they sent the MC067 suspicious buyer email. Sent to the address given on eBay and Paypal so hopefully there's some protection, but no doubt they'll weasel out of it.

  • What 2 factor auth should I download on my mobile that can be migrated when I get a new phone?

    Cheers.

  • Makes sense.

Any ideas at all where I might get that? Seems like all the tiny tubing is silicone or PVC...

  • Is guess very little difference, if any.

The only issue would be if the ends of the jaws were too fat to fit between the links, in which case a few minutes with a file would solve the problem.

11 speed chains are the smallest so if they fit those you shouldn’t have a problem, and I imagine most - if not all - are designed with 11 so chains in mind.

  • Seems like all the tiny tubing is silicone or PVC...

Try searching for PTFE, I've found that before in suitable sizes.

  • 11 speed chains are the smallest

Same size as 9, 10 and 12 speed chains
