Can anyone link me to a through axle gear hanger for simplex drop outs like this?
I have been browsing for hours and am getting hanger blindness.

i've used the track pump, lets see how that goes.

so that was your problem, the inner tube not adequately inflated thus the tyre could rotate around the rim pulling the inner tube so the tube tore.

So I see a lot of wheels being sold in the Classifieds. Does anyone have some reading material or otherwise useful stuff for me to get better at identifying deals that are worth it? Basically, a lot of the wheels seem to have been built by someone at some point, and I have no idea how the price/value compares to a 'normal' wheelset one can buy - such as the Miche Xpress wheelset I've got on my bike currently, which was around £140.

Any hints by the wise experts on here?

Thanks, that's a good starting point. I have no clue how expensive wheelbuilding is though. It is one of those things I'd like to learn myself in future though, I'm usually not too bad at those kind of manual tasks.

Ordered something from eBay because it was cheaper than Amazon as it was £16 or so with free P&P (and I don't have Prime so would have had to have paid £4.50 P&P with Amazon). It arrived today in Amazon Prime wrapping with an Amazon packing slip (but no receipt).

I'm guessing someone is selling items on eBay and fulfilling the orders using their Prime account to get the items delivered to the purchaser as gifts (hence no eBay seller receipt and no pricing info).

Is this a thing? I'm sure it makes them a small bit of money but I'm sure the profit margin goes out of the window when you have to deal with returns (or do they just tell you to return it to Amazon)?

[EDIT] Ah, could also be sellers using Amazon to store and ship everything, even though they're selling via eBay.

Also, I’m not sure what you mean by coaxial in that context. Concentric maybe? If so, that won’t be an issue either. As long as the BB she’ll has been faced off properly then it’ll be fine.

I think coaxial is the right term. Non coaxial objects don't share a common axis, so if the BB cups are not coaxial then an imaginary line drawn down the axis around which the drive-side bearing spins would not be the same line around which the non-drive side bearing spins. This means that when you force the axle through them, one or both of them will be receiving a twisting load (in addition to the expected load). In a square-taper BB the bearings are held coaxially by the BB shell, but with independent BB cups they could be not coaxial.

I think the concern was that even if the BB shell had been faced then the introduction of the bracket between the drive-side cup and the frame could misalign the cups, since the bracket is not very finely engineered and is subject to other loads from the chain guard that it's attached to.

Spokes are mostly between 10p and £3 each. Wheelbuilders add from 0p to £40 per wheel on top of the cost of parts.

How should you sign off a card of condolence to people you don't know? My usual "best wishes" sounds a bit casual and jolly, "kind regards" sounds like a business letter, "with love" is too familiar.

Spate of finding a number of false widow spiders (confirmed by my sister, who knows her onions) in and around our house. I'm not too bothered by the little blighters, despite all the negative news coverage a little while ago. But Mrs c00ps (and grandma c00ps) aren't entirely happy. Do I get rid of them somehow (meh) or leave them be, like I have been doing (and am inclined to do)?
