jockey wheels
I'd suggest chain is more likely than jockey wheels, particularly with plastic wheels running on bushings as 5800 has.

Forgot to add: it doesn’t happen when pedalling backwards.
Also it doesn’t squeak when turning the cranks by hand.

Pedals?

it doesn’t happen when pedalling backwards.
Also it doesn’t squeak when turning the cranks by hand. The chain needs tension to squeak at the pin/plate interface, going backwards or by hand with the wheel off the ground doesn't create enough pressure at the interface to generate the stiction which is the necessary precursor of the stiction release which actually makes the noise.

Thanks for the help. I’ve given the drivetrain a clean and re-oiled. Will find out tomorrow if that has solved it.

Figure I should ask this now: If the chain does need replacing, what is a recommended 11speed chain?

Where, up London, are good places for taking photographs during the day? Industrial, boats, architecture. General shitty urban decay.

Walk the canal from the river (St Catherine’s dock IIRC) through Hackney, Camden, Islington up to Regents Park. It’s a nice walk to do anyway, but should get you quite a study in contrasts/what you are after

Walk "the line" along the river Lea, Stratford to Cody dock .

gmail - on my mobile phone, when i swipe right it deletes the message, but when i go to my gmail on my laptop it is still in my inbox. clearly this is irritating. any solution?
edit: also, gmail categorises all my emails as Social, Promotions, Updates and Forums. Even if I trash and empty trash my emails are all still in these folders. I'd like this to not happen too.

is your swiping right actually archiving the emails, not deleting then? You can change web Gmail back to a traditional inbox in the settings.

How to keep metal mudguards from rattling against the frame? Tight(er) fitment? Or maybe some padding in between?
-

Cork washers

I should have specified: I'm talking about the sides/edges of the guards, where they are touching the insides of the seatstays and the front fork arms.

I'd try something like felt furniture pads. Not sure how well the adhesive would stand up to bike use though. Probably depends on the rigidness of the guards as to whether you can fix it with tightening: mine don't move or rattle at all using cork washers at the chainstay bridge but they're pretty solid guards.

How hard am I going to find riding a 1400m ascent over 25k on a steel touring bike with a big saddle bag? I don't have much experience or large hills / mountains.

I think leather washers are the traditional solution?
I make mine using two different sizes of hole punch, choosing colour and thickness according to which bike and how much thread is available.Edit - just read your second post re: edges of guards - I'd still suggest leather, held in place with contact adhesive?
Have that also, last few days, Campag gruppo. Put it down to drying out after rain washed chain lube off? Or more serious / will my bike die?
