  • I also find that the best tasting is Dehraduni (this is a style or region, not a brand) Basmati.

  • From an earlier page: Mrs. E has a Samsung Galaxy Fame and wants a Fitbit type thing to go with it, main exercise being walking.
I know nothing about this kind of thing - what do I buy?

    Anyone?

Otherwise she's threatening to buy some sort of small dog as a way of forcing daily walks...

  • Can you not put the google fit app on the phone, no need for accesories if the phone has an acceleration! sensor.
    https://www.google.com/fit/

  • Part of the question hinges on neither of us knowing much about apps or what a Galaxy Fame comes equipped with! My understanding of ICT mostly predates XP and is now about as useful as knowledge of flint knapping.
The list of compatible devices on the Fitbit site lists variations on Galaxy S3 to S6, but we think the 'Fame' is more basic (= usable by the older generation)
Will give it a go - next question may be how to wrap an app as a late Christmas present...

  • Thanks - I found fitbit type things in the classified section, but this is more what I was looking for.

  • If you go to the play store and try to install google fit it will tell you if it is compatible with your device or not.

  • Will give it a go once her pre New Year messaging is sorted - thanks.

  • What's going on with that banana?

  • That's what I wanna know.

  • Former colleague asking if I want to buy a domain we bought and worked on together (though at the time he bought it under his name only so he's got the keys) for much £££. I want the domain but have no desire to part with such £££. Apart from offering less, what are my options?
He could let it lapse and I could put some kind of reserve on it through a domain service? Would he know it'd been reserved?
I could employ a third party to make a lowball offer and I could tell him myself that I have no interest. Other?

  • Other?

Accept that you can't have it and give yourself a pat on the back for avoiding wasting the money?

  • Will it generate enough £ over xyz to make it worth the purchase of £, ££ or £££?

  • Apart from offering less, what are my options?

Offering more and offering exactly the asking price :)

As @pdlouche intimates, work out how much you actually want it and make an appropriate offer.

  • We put a fair bit of time into it and it was #1 on google for a pretty broad three word phrase. It's now #15 so would need a fair amount of time spent bringing it back to life. It's probably made about 300k since 2012 (from leads and subsequent sales rather than advertising or anything) but I think it has potential to do far more - we've just been distracted with other projects. To the extent we've not had contact via that site since August.

    My hesitations:

    1. I'll probably remain distracted so not sure I have the patience to bring it back to life in a meaningful way any time soon.
    2. Tax is due in 30 days and I don't have £££ lying around that isn't already earmarked for HMRC.
    3. If I was going spend either time and/or ££ bringing it back to life plus the cost of the domain itself, wouldn't I be better off just getting a new domain and investing all of that into total ownership? But presumably the 5 year history looks better to Google (etc) than a brand new domain? Domain is based, embarrassingly, on keywords which makes it fractionally more challenging to find a replacement as specific as ours.

    4. Also I just resent the idea of spending any more money on domains.

  • My hesitations:

You're asking yourself the right questions, but only you can answer them. Remember to consider what return you could get on the time and money by doing something entirely different with it.

  • Amusingly I just typed in what would be the 'dream' domain into GoDaddy. Not only is it available but it's half the price I'm being offered for current one. It's still fucking expensive so it'll have to wait and if it gets snapped up in the interim so be it.

  • I have bent the B-adjusting screw on an old Sram Apex rear derailleur. Is it possible to buy a new screw? Are they a universal fit on Sram, or in general? Or does it mean replacing the derailleur? It works fine with the bent screw in currently, but doesn't seem like a long-term great idea. Thanks in advance of any help.

If it were me I'd take the screw out and show it to my friendly local engineers' merchant, working on the assumption that it's unlikely to be something terribly exotic; I'd suspect this would be the #tester_approved method, save that he probably knows exactly what size and pitch it is already...

  • I suspect your LBS will have some suitable donor mechs. Pretty sure I got a SRAM screw to fit in a Shimano mech, so they're probably pretty universal.

  • Almost certainly standard M4 screw.
    5p from ebay or similar.

  • If you're desperate Halfords have them on the rack of assorted stuff.

  • Thanks all for the advice. I'll try the M4 screw / the one on @Thrustvector 's link, then LBS if not.

  • Any alternative to official Sram for BB30 bearings?

edit: should have spent longer with Google, it looks like 6806 bearings.

  • There are more expensive alternatives :)

Worth getting them from a well renowned bearing supplier or known brand of quality bearing.
