There are a variety of discussions on the PC tech thread or this probably captures most of it

Edit - bah too slow

Cheers, it's not a range issue which seems to be the main theme of the thread, but it's certainly transferable expertise. I'll bump that thread.

Hello I recently bought Schwalbe G one speed tyres. 29x2.35. However I'm now a bit confused have they replaced the schwalbe big ones? Or are they a different tyre? Very confused after reading a few articles.
If they have been replaced what had replaced them? I basically just want the largest schwalbe big one tyre..

What happens if you plug into the router? That should narrow down whether it’s the WiFi or routing part of the hardware failing.
The PC thread answer would be to get a network switch and WiFi access point regardless.

Ethernet from router golden. It's the WiFi. Also tried different channels with various improvements and impairments, but never satisfactory results.

I bought a Unifi AP (I can find out exactly which one), switched the built in WiFi off and plugged that into one of the ethernet ports on the router. Proper fast and faultless connection everywhere in the house.

Yeah, same. AP AC Lite

Just checked, I went for the UAP-AC-LR.
Plugged it in, set it up with the mobile app, was up and running in about 2 minutes. Not a single issue since.

Pishy EU nonsense!
When we've left, we'll start again with the King James Bible as book No.1. -

Unifi APs are the correct answer.

whats the best domestic train booking site that allows me to specify a bicycle reservation with the booking process? I used to use East Coast Rail but it seems the new Virgin franchised one won't let me.

Last I checked, TransPennine Express still let you do this:

Do these UNIFI APs do anything other than boost broadcast signal from an ethernet source? I.e., port forwarding?
-
• #86742
How do we know that dark matter is anything more than normal matter that we just can't see or detect (due to size, distance, temperature)?
-
• #86743
Port forwarding is a different thing to do with firewalls.
The UniFi APs will provide a standalone WiFi network from an ethernet source. You can set the SSID of the AP to be the same as that of an existing network (along with all the other security settings) and you will have some amount of range extension. Alternatively, you can set up a parallel WLAN and choose the stronger of the two. -

We don't. That's why it's 'dark' - we can't detect it directly but we can infer that some mass-energy must be there through other measurements (i.e. rate of expansion of the universe).
-
• #86745
If it was normal matter you'd be able to see or detect it, like all the other matter we can see and detect, dark matter is something predicted to be there because something currently undetectable is affecting the matter we can see and detect.

That's what I figured. So UniFi APs are not suitable for what I want to do. I need a router with decent wifi broadcasting. I want to be able to open up one computer to the world, while also get sweet wifi speeds within our flat.

Google has a new router out, can use a few in a mesh too I think.

Cheers - just did a bit of googling. They are not particularly cheap... I am...

It will be perfect, you just need to set it up right.
You keep your router (with its internal network switch). This makes you an internal LAN, separate from the WAN/internet. You use the AP, plugged into the router, to set up a WLAN that allows your to talk to the LAN over WiFi (with sweet speeds). Turn off the WiFi on your Zyxel to avoid conflict.
If you want to completely open one computer to the world (are you really sure?) then you need to set up the router to do this for you - it's the gatehouse between the external WAN and internal LAN. You can either put that computer into the DMZ (yes that means de-militarized zone, it's a gaming feature most routers have) and it will appear completely open - this is dangerous - or you can selectively forward ports on the router's firewall to your internal device. I would suggest the latter.

Does anyone use zwift on a laptop? Any recommendations?
I need router advice. Is this the thread for it?
I've got a new internet connection. 100mbps. The router I got with the internet (which I'm paying for) is completely unfit for purpose (it's the zyxel VMG1312-B10D). I have ethernet directly into the flat which works perfectly if connected directly to my PC. Put it through the router and connect via wifi? Speeds drop from from 100 to as low as 1mbps (average probably around 20, but it's really unstable and I'm fairly frequently getting kicked off a work VPN connection).
Thoughts?
