I fudged it as described. Lenght of brake cable and two layers of 3mm heat shrink tube. Seems to work ok.

Is Gimp still the go to free image editor? (for Mac OS )
-
• #85729
i hate gimp so much I would recommend dropping £30 on affinity (designer or photo depending on needs) instead.

ooh interesting. now £50, but still as a one-off that's pretty affordable if it's useful.

Another couple of frame repair questions:
Stuck seatpost removal resulted in quite a lot of damage to the seattube. Sawed chips around the top and a saw mark and scratches to the inside. Is there any point in filling or treating the saw mark on the inside? Is it susceptible to spreading or rusting?
I will try and neaten up the chips around the top anyway. Also, is Araldite Repair putty any better for filling dents or stick to Araldite Rapid as @freezing77 suggested?

Sorry for the late reply. Material thickness between splines was 0.6-0.8 mm.

If you are still looking, and you can collect from Barnet, you are welcome to this for a forum donation
It's pretty heavy, and in an ideal world it would have a new chain on it, but it is otherwise pretty OK. Paintwork good, new tyres/tubes/blocks etc.

Just ordered a coaster brake wheelset but it's 110 old rather than 120 old, anyone know where to get 2x 5mm spacers?

HMRC are insisting that I fill out an online tax-return, why might this be?

It's not a scam of some sort is it?
I got a quite obvious scam text purporting to be from HMRC.

No, official letter, in the physical post.

How do you usually file your tax return?
There's a tax return thread for tax return questions. -

PAYE normally, hence my surprise
-

PAYE
Have you had a change of employer during the 2016/17 tax year, or an additional employer? In theory, PAYE should cope with this but it doesn't always run smoothly and they may want to give you an opportunity to fix any errors. They're saying online because they like people to file online rather than on paper, I have a feeling you can only file on paper now if you've already been doing it for years, new enrolment to Self Assessment is online only.
-

This could be an accidental 'my income just went over £100k for the first time' boast post. PAYE and self assessment can co-exist.

What's a good bang-for-buck digital vernier that would measure stuff like cassette spacers accurately? I have a shitty cheap plastic one and I basically guess if something is 1mm vs. 1.8mm because it's a bit shit. I want digital because
a lifetime of masturbationgetting older means it's a pain to look at fine lines on manual calipers. -

I bought a draper one, accurate to .1 of a mm. Think it was less than a tenner.
In hindsight I wish I'd bought one that went to two decimal places though

Whatever is on ebay, they're all about the same if you're not going to spend £100 on a Mitutoyo

Mitutoyo
What does spending £100 on one of these do for me? I don't generally measure weird shit like ball bearings, just spacers and stuff which are probably .XXmm precision? ie. 1.85mm?
