  • Thanks for help with this US citizenship malarkey.

Literally everyone I tell this story to says:

I thought people born in the US got US citizenship automatically?

Well my wife slipped through the net somehow. Maybe someone working at the consulate in Atlanta in July 1986 was hungover and forgot to fill in the paperwork. Her birth certificate (the only one anyone has access to, including her parents, and which is currently sitting in my hands), looks to be British. It's certainly not one of the documents listed here.

Some digging has led me to believe that my wife can request her (US) birth certificate from here, although why here otherwise very well-organised parents don't have this document already is something nobody can answer.

  • You should be able to request a copy from the Fulton county Bureau of Vitalstatistics

    http://www.fultoncountyga.gov/dhw-vital-records

Unless she was born outside of Atlanta and I have musunderstood something. Either way the county she was born in would have those records. You'll have the DoB, name, parental names and hospital so it should be a no brainer to obtain.

  • Yeah she was born in Durham, NC, but I assume that Atlanta was the nearest consulate.

Cheers tho - this has been fun! She's on the US no-entry list because, er, she was born there but rudely didn't take them up on the free citizenship giveaway they have.

She's actually been to the US loads, like 7 or 8 times. So weird.

  • This what she should need.

No need to go through an agency - you should be able to go direct. A kind email explaining the need for an international destination should suffice too

  • I have a feeling that US citizenship really screws you over for taxes, basically they try and tax overseas earnings.

On the other hand, you also have to pay to renounce citizenship. A little cheeky.

  • I think they're backed by Barclays.

  • I have golden ticket for Mondo invite if you want? Try it out and see if it works for you?

  • Does anyone want a Novatec front hub (20h, A141)? There's a F&R set going at a good price, but I only want the rear...Could sell the front on for £22 posted?

  • Carbon paste on a slipping aluminium seatpost in a steel frame. Any problems?

  • @Hulsroy will be interested if he's not, im sure

  • Yes indeed. As a Merican citizen you are required to file taxes there whether you live there or not. And you get taxed on joint accounts, capital gains from selling primary residence, etc. It's a whole world of pain (that we've just gone through).
If she's not bothered about the dual citizenship, I'd renounce that motherfucker.

Mrs -ru was born in NY and is only hanging on to hers so the kids can go and live/work there later on if they fancy it (and it isn't a nuclear wasteland by then).

  • absolutely village question: a 26 inch fork is the same as a 650c fork right?

  • It won't cause any problems, I use it on my seatposts no matter what frame.

  • Uhh yes please @Tenderloin. If Dan is not going to use it I'd love to be bumped up from my current 27.000.000th place.

  • 559mm vs 571mm wheel size

  • i need a bracket (black), to attach the cross bar of a table leg (blue) to the underside of a table (brown). screws are orange.

    • bracket.jpg
  • You need shorter screws

  • That's what she said.

  • good point. fixed.

  • Indeed I do! nice one. thanks

  • 559mm vs 571mm wheel size

Or any of the other things which are called "26 inch", like 584 (650B), 590 (650A) and 597 :)

  • I was just assuming the common usage; of course, all 26 forks fit all 26 wheels as long as they're the same 26.
    ISO/ETRTO ftw

  • Any problems?

As @Sumo says, it won't do any harm, but if it doesn't hold using Copaslip, then a: it probably won't hold using carbon paste either (the copper granules in Copaslip work in much the same way as the plastic granules in carbon paste in that application) and b: you're trying to paper over a bigger crack, which you should sort out rather than trying to disguise it.
