  • brakes lol!

  • Is it just some brands where you're supposed to squeeze the plates together to help it pop open/close?

  • Yeah... I know there are tools to undo them...it was more the thought of using a tool to do them up :)

    Wot Sumo said, in fact.

  • I didn't know these things existed for joining links :/

Are you new to the cycling industry or sumfin?

  • uurgh no, see above - I didn't know there were versions of this tool that could be used to remove and join a quicklink.

Probably because I've never needed a tool to join - just made sure the link was under tension then stood on the pedals with the rear brake on.

(FWIW kids, and @fizzy.bleach in particular - some quicklinks are single use, so squeezing them to jimmy them open isn't going to get you far)

  • It may just be that I spend more time working on shit bikes...

  • And what's the on-the-bike version - or should I just carry a spare master link along with a chain breaker.

If the chain breaks at the master link, you won't need pliers; if it breaks elsewhere, you won't need to undo it.

Carrying master link pliers on the bike >>>>>>>>>>>

  • Carrying master link pliers on the bike >>>>>>>>>>>

Kinda what I thought. But I can never trust myself entirely, because I like to make stuff up.

Having a squeeze together one is just a convenience - saves having to take the bike off the stand to stand on the pedals.

Never underestimate how lazy I can be.

  • Do decent (consumer) handheld, steam cleaners exist? The ones I've seen appear to dribble out loads of water after about 10 seconds of steam.

  • In fairness I have master link pliers. Every single time I use them instead of dicking around with needlenose pliers I think "that was money well spent."

  • Best way to clean up a electrical tape residue/marks on a matte carbon fork?

Snap, I have an opening pair and a closing pair.

  • I don't understand why you need a closing pair, just accelerate hard and the link will close.

  • Try WD40 on a rag first. It should dissolve adhesive.

  • Best way to clean up a electrical tape

d-limonene is my go-to for that, or http://www.desolvit.co.uk/product/de%e2%80%90solv%e2%80%90it-sticky-stuff-remover/ which you can get everywhere if you don't want to shop for industrial chemicals. The proper solution would have been to avoid adhesive tape in the first place, you can nearly always use a loop of self-amalgamating silicone tape instead.

  • Is the low priced Loctite 243 offered on Ebay genuine? (example)

  • I never take the bike off the stand, just hold the back wheel and yank on a crank.

  • Y'all bitches need to up your game. I have dual function master link pliers.

  • We haz those but I still only use them to open.

  • Lose them, lose both.

  • What are my best options for Bb86? Is there a good crank to use or am I best to use an adapter to work with normal SRAM cranks?
Am I understanding it right I can use bb30 cranks?

  • i wanna buy some 46/36 chainrings. fsa and stronglight come in at best price at 40 euros total. which should i take?

  • Sram pressfit bb
