  • Is this certificate still valid? I was riding on the road today..... don't tell anyone ok?

40 years ago last month, I can still remember doing it too.

  • @peter_v you want 27.2 mm.
28.6 mm outer diameter - 2x 0.7 mm wall thickness = 27.2 mm inner diameter.

  • cheers! but it's tapered, so would that mean it should be 28.6 - 2 x 1.0 = 26.6?

  • ah I see it's only thicker at the bb end as the chart says 1.0 - 0.7 whereas the double tapered top tube has 0.9 - 0.6 - 0.9

    sorted :)

  • The thick wall on a single butted seat tube goes at the BB shell junction. On the face of it, @hamrack is right, but it isn't always that simple because tubes sometimes get reamed or swaged to make them fit a common seat post size. Try a 27.2 if you have one handy, but if in doubt measure

  • cheers. I've got lots of seatposts handy, but the frame (from which seat & post got stolen) in question is 200km away, in the hands of a layman friend with bad eyesight and dodgy calipers ;)

  • Pro Cycle Hire in Puerto Pollensa is the only one I know about. There is also an Assos archive store in Alcudia, down the road.

  • I will give it a go ta

  • I'm moving back to London next week after two years in Helsinki.

Where would be a good thread to ask questions about areas to rent, good agents, internet etc. Was thinking the owning your own home thread is the nearest, but then again that's owning.

If there's not a suitable thread I guess I can start a new one.

  • this thread..

  • My suitcase is 24cm deep, will I be able to get it closed with a Brompton in it? Brompton site says a folded Brompton is 27cm deep... Will taking the pedals and saddle off help with that last 3cm?

It's a big enough case to accommodate the X and Y, just a bit worried about the Z...

  • You can get a whole MI6 spy in a holdall so I imagine with the pedals removed your bike will fit in a suitcase. There's always a bit of easing to be done in all suitcases especially if someone jumps up and down on it whilst you zip it up.

  • Has anyone ever tried to swap mini-v brakes with cantis and found they don't fit? Plenty of clearance at the back but seems to tight at the front - is it possible to add spacers?

  • V-brake style pads have two interchangeable hemispherical spacers and a washer. Swap them around either side of the cantilever arm to give you more (or less) space.

  • Best place to get hold of a 1 1/8th Chris King conversion kit. Want to change a thread less to a threaded set up.

Or any ideas whether or not I'd be able to use the top off a different 1 1/8th threaded set up on my thread less cups?

  • Want to change a thread less to a threaded set up.

It's madness, I tell you, but AVTBike is your first stop for CK stuff if you really must use a 1⅛" threaded steerer, which is, in case I didn't mention it before, sheer madness.

  • Upgrading a Brompton headset so no threadless option as far as I'm aware!

Thanks for the heads up on AVT

  • Got a five speed 28-14 freewheel and a 44t stronglight chainset; gears too low.
Looking for easiest/cheapest way for high gears.
Thinking get 54t Brompton chainset. See any problems with this? Apart from maybe needing a longer chain.

  • With cash I'd get the Thorn stuff I think, but Brompton route will be half the price or less.

  • Stick with Brompton's own, can't get any better really.

  • I've got a Chris King GripNut headset on my Brompton. Works nicely.
