Ran into a little problem when installing some Sugino cranks/external BB last night.
BB went in fine, inserted DS crank arm, slide the NDS arm on and tighten up the preload bolt but it doesn't seem to pull the arms in enough no matter how tight it is. Did up the cinch bolts and you can push the the crank arm/pinch bolt and it "snaps" out towards the drive side about 1-2mm, pushing from the other side moves it back.
Documentation doesn't suggest I need any spacers for the BB:

Any suggestions?

Had your BB shell faced a bit too much? Bung a spacer in, what's the worst that could happen.

Shell hasn't been faced. Had square taper in before, gently removed paint from the shell with a stanley knife blade (I know, I know... just need to get this rolling by sunday for a single ride, then do everything properly in the new year)
Will have a rummage for some spacers...

if its an external bb it has to be faced or you are very likely to fuck it up in the first ride

I've got SRAM Red brakes on my Supersix. They're a bit fiddly to set up, and despite being perfectly adequate at stopping me, I just can't abide single-pivot brakes.
What would represent an improvement in terms of stopping power, weight or aerodynamics? Ideally all of them. Also DA recommendations may fall on deaf ears; for some reason mixing major groupset parts seems wrong.

EE brakes maybe?

stopping power, weight or aerodynamics?
- EEBrakes, apparently
- AX Lightness 3000
- TriRig Omega X

EEBrakes
So good that they make you slower even when you're not braking :-) I don't think Dr Coggan ever got a set to test in his mini wind tunnel, which is a shame as it would have been nice to have found out whether strapping the Forth Bridge to your fork crown cost you 15W or only 10 compared with a basic side pull.

it's called air-braking tester; feature, not bug

EEBrakes
Just saw the price tag on those things

And I thought Campag Delta were ugly...

Best not to look at the price on the AX brakes then

Would it actually be cheaper to go for the SRAM hydraulic one?

nice thing about the ee brakes is that they don't hang an arm out into the wind- the cable pretty much comes out the middle. I reckon they might surprise you on the aero front.

Hmm
-
• #72943
I don't. Pretty much every aero bike sticks the brakes out the way, presumably because that's where they have the least impact on air flow.

Wow, we both chose exactly the same pix

I'd like to see a Stealth Bomber loop-the-loop though.

How would you know it had done it?
-
• #72948
I'd doubt a Swordfish could either

Tri rig's are nice but center pull is a ballache.

Thank you too :)
