I noticed this today on my carbon front wheel. I assume it is, but is it fucked? It seems to be the top layer of carbon that's chipped off

Some shops penalise the staff directly for returns they can't wiggle out of or suggest alternatives for so the money stays within the shop. Why they aren't suggesting store credit I have no idea. The overall impact that you might take offence to them doing that and boycott the shop is really lost on the head office people who set the targets.

So did you win at track 101?
-

Nah, if it's installed correctly, it will be fine, must have fitted hundreds like that.

Placement is fine, just ensure its properly tight and secure to warrant no movement.
Don't forget to lube the keyhole (frnar).

I'm buying a triflingly small number of bolts from Westfield Fasteners. If anyone wants anything and is willing to split the £3.50 postage let me know ASAP. That's not a question.

What kind of mileage does it have? The brake track looks like its seen better days.

I'm not expert so take my opinion with a pinch of salt but to me it looks like its finished. The brake track looks like it'd peeling away and those patches look as though they are regions which have worn through.

Scenario: Not bike related - 18 yr old typical British teen male has chosen to go on a cheap holiday, solo, to Poznan and other cities in Poland. Am I likely to have to utilise a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career? Or can I relax and assume he will return in one piece? None of our family has any experience of travelling in Poland and he hasn't been out of his room for two years.

Look at it as a test. If he makes it back, he's worth continued investment. If not, well you may have saved yourself time and money.

Start him out with a trip to the corner shop for a pack of crisps for you.
If he succeeds build from there. -

Polish countryside is very friendly - catholic heritage. In bigger cities you'll find scumbags all over the world.

I need a new chain for my TT bike which has ultegra di2 groupset on it, looks like the ultegra one and dura ace one are pretty close in price, any reason not to go DA?

Cool cheers Ed. I moved it up a little anyway just in case, better to be safe than sorry.
I used to ride with my d lock bungeed to the top of a rear pannier, that thing rattled like a machine gun. With the bracket it's more or less silent. Bliss.
Looks like shit though. -

I've done some large format stuff, but I'm by no means an expert.

I wonder if a 2m chain would go through the main triangle of all my bikes?
I think you'd be able to loop that through five carefully top-to-tailed bikes. I only (!) bought the 16mm thick chain and even though it has the plastic sheath I could see it chipping paint if you were clumsy, I guess you could lay a blanket through the frames first. The padlock is ace though.

He flew out on Friday night to Poznan and has gone to Wroclaw today. He rarely ceases to disappoint but he seems to have survived so far. Why Poland? His explanation was that it was cheap but still.

Can anyone recommend a good printers?
A mate of mine is getting married and needs to print his invitations / save the date stuff. Potentially requires embossing as well...

My colleague says one of his spoke nipples has fallen off and is rattling around in his wheel. I've never had that proble myself so haven't tried to repair it but is it as simple as screwing it back on to the spoke (after lifting the rim tape) and then tightening it all up with a spoke key?
I can see many things going wrong (I'm worried about the rim tape for starters) but if it is possible what shoudl I look out for?
It was all ok in the end, miles away from the cantis and the stay acts as a barrier as expected.
If it hadn't worked then your solution would have been my next choice.
Cheers.
