I'd love to, but I suspect I'd have to have left this morning.

So you're saying none of the carriers flying out of Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Luton, Birmingham have availability into the the airports around Milan?
Surprised
-
• #65133
I'm only looking at the London area airports, and no - not that get me there for ~11am tomorrow.
-
• #65134
So now you want to be there for 11 and only fly from London
-
• #65135
True. Anyway, booted the meeting to Thursday when I can actually get there.

Can Administrator status on Windows 7 be used to prevent bluetooth devices connecting to a machine?
Trying to work out why a bluetooth mouse won't work with my Work laptop and just wondering if it's another annoying IT policy.

What are my options for hub geared, hydraulic disc equipped bike? Steel frame preferred. I've come up with a pomp or a road rat. Anything else worth considering?

Shimano cup and cone hubs:
Will it work if I use a a rear cone in a front hub (same 10mm axle size but front uses 3/16 ball bearings where as rear is made for 1/4).The rear cone would have a more open curve, so it should be possible?I want to do this for reasons :)

It will work for about 5 minutes, then your balls will explode. The rolling elements in the bearing might not last long either :-)

Ok thanks. So much quicker wear because of more play in the hub? = bad idea
-
• #65146
The problem is that because the curvature of the outside of the balls is different to the curvature of the cone, the balls will only rest against a very small part of the cone. This will put massive pressure on them, and they'll fail. Probably quite quickly. Ball and cone bearings are machined to very high tolerances, which is why something so small is able to take such large loads. They problem wouldn't be the fact it'd wear quickly - the problem is that it would fail, probably fairly catastrophically.

Ok, the term explode is usually used in this thread as a bit of an exaggeration, but this time it is actually true! thanks

• #65148
are there any off the shelf options for this? i'm guessing no and probably less likely to be cheap enough to buy on cycle to work.

The Hylex come completed, but would recommend replacing the pads with the Shimano one for longevity and durability.
You can buy the M:Part Afline rear wheel with disc and 700c, bear in mind that the hubs is centerlock, meaning you need to buy a new centerlock rotor as the standard 6 bolt one from the Hylex won't fit.
Pinnacle Arkose come with Hylex and 10 speed drivetrain (cassette), IMHO, this would be a good alternative to getting the internal hubs on account for the lightweight and reasonable range of gear, the single chainring should allow less wear and tear too.

I can hear debris moving in the top tube of my steel frame, I'm assuming internal rust as the frame once had a repair near the bb for just that. The tt is sealed at both the St and ht so how could moisture get in?
Maybe I should cycle?
