  • If the ETRTO rim diameter doesn't match, don't even try.

  • Yeah... Not even close.

Will probs try any way just to prove you right again.

  • Do "ought to" and "should" mean the same thing?

  • yes

  • Should I waste ten minutes of my life trying to put a spare pair of 26" tyres onto some 650C rims?

It will take much less than ten minutes, a 571mm 650C tyre will go straight over a 559mm MTB 26" rim without touching the sides, so you can imagine how far away from getting anywhere near being able to stretch an MTB tyre onto a triathlengers wheel you're going to be.

  • And likewise, a 590mm 26" roadster tyre will pass clear over a 571mm rim, so that's nowhere near either.

  • It should ought to mean the same.

  • Why does eBay auto search my recent google searches when I open their website? Quite disconcerting.

  • what's the best rim tape for clincher tires? I've tried all my LBS has to offer and they all have problems.

The thick rubber ones tear after a few months, the plasticky ones I used shrunk so much my inner tube ended up in the holes in the rim causing a tear. I had hard ones made out of I think fiberglass that actually punctured one of my inner tubes.

Is there a good brand with a good product available? I prefer light weight stuff but it still needs to do it's job. I never (still amazing) had a problem on the road with glass, nails etc to date. But so many flats due to rim tape problems.

  • New to me, I've never had a problem with any of the variety of approved and otherwise tapes that I've used.

  • I've used most of them without trouble, but the Schwalbe blue ones seem to be the most robust. The weight weenie option, which works well as long as your rims are compatible, is Veloplugs

  • Yeah I've had problems with the plastic stuff.

Velox fond de jante comes in several widths and works nicely. It doesn't last forever though and might need replacing before the rim is dead.

  • Why does eBay auto search my recent google searches when I open their website? Quite disconcerting.

Because you have poor privacy settings in your browser

  • It's only just started happening, and I didn't think I'd changed anything... What might I do to improve my privacy settings?

  • Turn off cookies, turn off referrer, turn off redirection, turn off javascript. That does show up which website designers are utterly incompetent, and therefore makes about 98% of websites completely unusable, but it's my default setting on Opera. You can then turn each of those things back on per site if you're happy to have them spy on you in return for providing their services.

  • Personally I always liked the sticky cloth rim tape...

  • miro_o: I think I'm going with that velox fond de jante.

I don't think I'll ever see the end of these rims. Wish to replace the wheelset for this specific bike anyway with tubeless anyway. Found the velox for just over 2 euro's. Not a problem to purchase a bunch of them. Might as well put them on my pub, crit and roadbike.

    Thanks all.

  • @umop3pisdn I use noscript and find it's pretty decent at stopping lots of junk, once it's setup to allow the sites I like and visit often it's kinda forgotten about for ages till I stray away.

  • I have a Merck fork with yellow on the fork crown (the pretty part) as it was Balk branded. It's stove enamel paint so it's going to try to stay on the best it can.

So normally heat is used to burn paint, or paint stripper.
Is there any paint stripper left in small tins that actually works?

As my da's old paint stripper stripped itself and the tin it was in out of existence. Quite impressive really...but left me with nothing ^=^

  • Nitromors should do the trick.

  • So I heard, but only the green version I believe is now being sold. As the active ingredient was nasty to the max. But the green one doesn't cut it...

  • @JWestland

How long did you leave it to work?

I've used it on stove enamel, but this is maybe modeller's enamel or similar.

  • You can tweak the green into being aggressive - google boil nitromors

  • Noscript is good but a bit of a faff at times.

Alternatives are Disconnect and Ghostery (not quite as controllable but less setup and intervention).

Personally I use noscript on Firefox (my main browser) and Disconnect on Chrome
