  • Where do you need to stay?

  • I'd pick a hotel in the area you want to stay and give them a ring- they'd be delighted to make some money from a room that would normally be standing empty I am sure.

My company hires rooms for meetings when we're travelling and don't have an office in that city.

  • I work on Eastcheap in the city and I'm thinking of popping down to Lower Thames Street to watch the TdF pass by on Monday.

Do I have any realistic chance of seeing anything if I turn up shortly before the riders come through, or am I doomed to stand there for five hours holding in a wee in order to get a decent spot?

  • Where do you need to stay?

I don't know yet. That's why I'm trying to get an idea of options scattered around so I can aim for one.

I think that's how it's gonna go down. When I'm closer I'll see what's about and ask them what they can do. I found Travellodge will let you do early check-in or late checkout if you ask them, they have room and you pay a little extra.

  • Anyone on here use powerpivot for Excel?

I just want to add a unique index for each row (i.e. 1, 2, 3, etc) but can't figure out how and can't find anything on Google. (My data is 4m lines long so can't do it in Excel).

    Cheers
Chuck it in ms access if you're on a windows box with office installed.

Or, if it's just a big flat file, you can use any number of free editing tools.

  • Anyone know where I can get one of these TODAY about EAST?

I thought that but there seems to be no way of getting the data out of Powerpivot that I can find.

  • Excellent. I was leaning towards Copenhagen or Barca, but needed confirmation that Copenhagen is not that exciting. Anyone been to a city recently that they think is a must-visit? I wanted to go to Istanbul, but my gf went last summer..

athens is fantastic! and venice is a lot better than people make out.. especially if you are going with the missus. taking a boat ride over to the glass making islands or across the harbour is absolutely incredible. barca is fucking boring and full of stag do wankers

  • I was in Padova last week which is a short train/bus from Venice and absolutely beautiful and can be explored by bike. Venice is kind of nice and all but so touristy, half a day walking over a thousand bridges was enough.

  • I've just bought a pair of sora sti shifters from someone on here but annoyingly they've come without the bar clamps (the seller is looking to see if he still has these) - anyone know if a) they can be bought separately (google failing me) or b) they will be transferable from an old 105 pair I've got?

    Cheers

  • use the 105 ones!

  • Ha, 105 shifters broken, hence the new ones. Is for budget project road bike... just need to know whether I need to look for new bar clamps or if they're interchangeable?

I love Venice. Spent a very happy few days there with my mrs. We went in february or march, when there were no tourists, we went on LastMinute.com and rented a huge apartment just off St Mark's square for the cost of a room in a Holiday Inn, and had the most magical time. The whole city was ours. It was just wonderful.

Italy, especially the North, is brilliant generally. Milan is spectacular, though it gets so hot in the summer that most of it shuts down in August while the residents go on holiday somewhere cooler.
I had a great couple of weeks on Lake Como, renting speedboats, eating delicious food, getting sunburned. I had less fun in the south. The attractions of the Amalfi coast are real though, Sorrento, Positano, plus Herculaneum and Pompeii. But outside the tourist places it's less salubrious. Muggers and pickpockets on the Circumvesuviana, taxi touts, all that dodginess. Naples in particular is a total and utter shithole.

  • I loved Naples... Felt like the real Italy...

  • Clearly you two should never holiday together unless it was for some wacky tv reality show.

Have a look in your filesystem for it.

    No............
I meant use the clamps off the 105 levers!

In the same sense that Hull is the real England, perhaps.

  • Ha. Naples is fucking brilliant-best food, best wine, best coffee. And Roman mosaic porn replete with flying cock mobiles. Fact. It smells a bit eggy because of the volcano I grant you, but the dynamism of the place distracts you from all that.

And you compare it to Hull which is uniquely famous for being the birthplace of John fucking Prescott? I'd have been less inclined to chip in if you hadn't praised the senile tramping ground of Como-it's like favouring Angela Lansbury over Lindsay Lohan. Yes, she's a bit mucky and prone to substance driven violent outbursts but she'll show you a hell of a time if you're careful where you tread and are open minded.

  • Nah, I don't get it. The food is nice but so is the food down the road in Sorrento. There's amazing art and sculpture but it's treated like shit and the place is a tip due to the local mafiosos controlling the bin wagons and refusing to collect anything whenever the politicians get a bit argumentative. Sorry mate but if I want to go somewhere where I constantly think I'm about to be robbed I'd go to Liverpool. It's closer and cheaper.

And Lake Como has a) no speed limit on the lake, b) the Moto Guzzi factory, c) James Bond scenery, and d) you can nip to Switzerland if you like,

  • the local mafiosos

The mafiosi are finished now the Pope is coming after them. :)

  • Any suggestions for a cheapish powerbank thing.

  • I ordered something ages ago and it's been held up at the border for about a month ( according to tracking) I've not heard anything since, what are the chances that it's been destroyed/sent back? All I know is that it arrived in the UK, no idea who has it or who to contact.
