  • It's not English threaded, it's French threaded, but you can fit English threads in one side, unfortunately French (and Italian I think) bb's have the same threading both sides (not reversed)... If you look closely you should be able to see.

Or it actually is English but one side is fucked, but the former is more likely.

  • Good idea! I'll just go for a sprintable distance I think. I'll have it, I'm sure. She's a fat fucker.

Aren't electric bikes limited to 10mph (to avoid needing to be licenced)... So longer would be better?

  • Is there a good online guide to shimming? I'm doing it wrong...

  • Aren't electric bikes limited to 10mph (to avoid needing to be licenced)... So longer would be better?

    No.

I don't know what the law states (I thought it was power limited, not speed limited, ie. 200W) but the two I've seen (and beaten into submission the evil electric witches!) they most certainly do more than 10mph.

  • Yeah the one I raced was doing quite a bit more than 10mph. Still think I'd be in with more than an chance over say, 100m. I might have to video this.

  • Some accelerate very quickly. You want to race them until the battery runs out and you are both going up a hill.

  • The assisted bikes will go much faster when the rider is pedalling in conjunction with the electric motor.

  • Hmmm. Interesting so 15.6mph plus any rider power..

  • At 25 kph the motor should disengage, so you only get assistance up to that speed

  • Price comparison sites. Bikes. Which one?

  • 100m is a small distance. Remember the motor helps her accelerate so she could have an advantage over the first few meters.
I'd go for a km, flat ground and just mash it. :D

  • She's a bit fat and in her mid 50's. Her pedal input will be minimal. I's starting to think I'll win whatever distance. #setmyselfupforafall

  • why i pm'd you about that french BB!
campy spindle 110 with french thread cups.
    shall i pm details?
    x

On my old French track frame with English threaded bb the left hand BB cup (regular direction threading) screws in fine to both sides of the frame, however the main body of the bb with the reverse thread doesn't screw in to the drive side.

    What's happening, I'm confused.

  • Would a chinese crabon 5 spoke wheelset support my weight without exploding?

  • possibly, but it wouldn't survive all the crashes.

  • Where has this all come from?

Ive had one spill in as many years. and it was a dainty flop on my side

  • "dainty"? I'm not sure that word can be applied to you CB. Although to be fair, you have a reputation as a leaner.

  • I'll be cycling in a part of Europe where there aren't any maps of a suitable scale that I've been able to find. Open Street Map is fantastic, though. I can create a large pdf from it, but then would need something printed on "map paper" (which I don't know how to specify) and folded like a map to fit in a pocket.

    Any advice, please?

  • Go to Stanfords on Long Acre and see if they can print a proper one out and how much it would be?

Edit: I know they can do it for OS maps, not sure about Europe

  • Most printing places "pdf to A0/A1/A2/A3 poster" have an ask about the paper before and they should have a sample to show how thick it will be and how well it folds/tears and if it's glossed or anything or just have a look in a rymans or something at what is what in the way of paper before you hit buy online somewhere. If you are thinking like an OS map then the "outside" card would be missing but that's probably better if you intend to fold it back on itself and the "budget" thinner paper options will probably work to your favour too. Better printers tend to be more anal about alignment and colour matching but a couple of mm out along one edge and a shade you didn't know existed off of blue won't make any difference to a diy map lol

  • http://toughprint.com/ is excellent for carrying printed maps on the bike, no large sheets though so you'd be looking at printing an atlas rather than a continuous map.

  • Question for the framebuilders/more knowledgeable than me would adding rack and mudguard mounts to a steel frame require a respray, or would clearcoating over the brazed area be ok as a ~6month temporary solution

  • Casens,
you could cover the custom printed map in sticky-back plastic, and fold it yourself.

can you still buy sticky-back pastic?
