Does a 25c (nominal) tyre fit under a PDW Full Metal Road fender? The next size up looks a lot clunkier.
If you have enough vertical space virtually any fender will fit over any tire.
A PDW 30mm fender will fit above a Surly Bud but will be ineffective.
Generally 10mm is the recommended minimum difference in size between fender and tire in order to minimise side splash and look right. If the fenders are a little too wide for your stays, a dremel will sort you out.
Use it on the fenders, not the stays.

Cycling home with a massive track pump do I put it "in" messenger bag with the flap kinda around the pump holding it inplace or more awkwardly bungee cable it to the top tube and pannier in a weird way?
-
• #61456
I'd go with the bag option, I don't like having stuff strapped to the toptube as I tend to catch my knees on it.

^^If you do get her a garlic press, look no further than the excellent Zyliss Susi 3...
+1,000,000 for anyone who wants a garlic press. These are awesome. -

Is there an education/schooling/university thread anywhere?
Realised that I should probably be giving it some though :/
You definitely need more education if you have failed to grasp the difference between 'though' and 'thought'

Anyone near-ish to SE6 got a headset press I can borrow over the weekend?
-
• #61462
I'm not that near but I have one. Give me a shout of you want to pop over and borrow.

I got given a hoodie with this print on it. I don't know if I'm being thick, but is it a clever play on words or aircraft pun that I'm not getting?

In mathematical optimisation, the cutting-plane method is an umbrella term for optimisation methods which iteratively refine a feasible set or objective function by means of linear inequalities, termed cuts.

That hoodie is well clever innit.

Yours or mine?

If you want to get technical about it, yours.

Why do they design brakes whereby the only method of tightening the pads, once carefully aligned with the rim, is to apply force to a bolt that completely whacks the pads out of alignment?

Ha!
I told Tom last night he was welcome to borrow it, but would have to arrange to collect it off you.

Because it's simple, cheap, light, reliable and doesn't mess up the pad alignment for the 99% of bike mechanics who know what they are doing :-)

What's the secret? It takes me a minimum of three goes every time.
-
• #61473
Apply the brakes with one hand while tightening the bolt with the other, and don't try to over-tighten them, 5Nm is enough.
-
• #61474
Thanks. Mine are these arsehole type cantis which require one hand to hold the bolt with a hex key and the other to turn the nut...
V-brake soon...

Oh, you mean retro post mount technology which should have been phased out years ago?
