Why is wind-tunnel time so expensive?
-
• #59980
Because wind tunnels that can move a lot of air at controllable speeds with laminar flow are hideously expensive.
-
• #59981
surely that means that they're pretty gust effective though?

Power drain? To run the thing#?

I'm way slow on this but can anyone point me to somewhere on here telling me what stage Microcosm is at and if I can still invest?
Wading through the sub-forum is a bit much.

Good cheap food north of the river?
Will be cycling to Clapton from Croydon and then back to Streatham and want to make a food stop. Don't mind a couple of miles out of the way if it's worth it.

What do you fancy?
Bagel, noodles, er kebab? Restaurant at wing yip on the A23?

At the risk of being spoon fed information, what would you suggest for a functional 1x7 or 8 setup with a DT shifter?
SL-R400 levers and RD-3500 comes to £45, I wouldn't spend more than that on second hand unless it's in really good condition, a new Sora/Tiagra set up will be nicer to use than a knackered Dura Ace one.

Bagels might be a good idea, brick lane on the way back/home. Just something I can stop and eat easily then jump back on the bike and ride home.
Will check out the wing yip one night after work, it's just a smidge off a longer route I go home via mitcham/tooting/places.
But yeah the plan is to leave work dead on 6pm, ride home to streatham and drop off junk/grab lights then ride to Clapton asap to pick up a crankset from some guy on here. Get some food and cycle back at a more fun pace with less direct routes.

Oh in that case there is a wing yip in mitcham/colliers wood near the big asda. Great dim sum by the way
There are some nice turkish kebab places. Or some pide cooked over charcoal.

HTFU. (Also put a padded blister plaster on it and pedal lightly, no mashing)
Question: I need to get a train from Bromley to Aylesham on a weekday, at around 7:40am, with a bike. This is the cycle policy. Am I likely to suffer aggravation trying to get my bike onto this train, given that it's going away from London? Has anybody done this before and lived to tell the tale?

You'll be fine. That line down to Dover is hardly ever busy, especially at that time of day.

Lovely, ta. Takes a bit of stress out of the occasion. People having weddings on a weekday can >>>>>>>
Have you been to investigate the Pilgrim's Way yet, incidentally?
-
• #59994
No. Was going to do it today, but have been prepping for an interview instead (after a sneaky ride this morning).
I'm thinking I'll do it next Tuesday as my friend, who lives in Barfreston (not far for Aylesham), works from home on Tuesdays and I can meet him for (a late) lunch.

Oh. Lucky sod. Having a full time job instead of getting to ride my bike in the countryside during the day is another thing that can >>>>>>>>>
I'm currently plotting a circuit around Aylesham that completely avoids the North Downs and keep thinking I'm missing out by only going round the coast even though I loathe going up hills with the heat of a thousand suns.

Would anyone be up for South Downs way, end-to-end, at some point this summer?
-
• #59997
It's on my list of rides to do, but not sure I can get a pass until number 2 child is a bit older.

The left shifter on a Campag Chorus 11 speed groupset is being funny. It will shift up fine but then you can't shift down. It's like the thumb lever is stuck on something, but if you pull the brake lever slightly at the same time then it shifts down. Any ideas?
-
• #59999
It needs a clean/lubrication. I've had this a few times with Campag shifters, and a good clean of the internals (normally via a few judicious blasts of GT85), followed by a quick lube usually sorts it out. A new cable can help too.
-
• #60000
They're brand new shifters and new jagwire cables. It was working fine, then I pushed the cable out the lever a bit to chop a bit of cable outer then when pulled it back through it's doing this.
