ACI DB at 21p each, don't use plain gauge.
Do they make that much difference? Am rebuilding a 3 speed rear wheel that has started breaking spokes so decided to re spoke the wheel and even leave the steel rim.

It probably started breaking spokes because they were plain gauge :-)
It's slightly counter-intuitive, but butted spokes end up being stronger in the long term because they elastically deform more in the middle, which spreads peak loads over more spokes. This means that the elbows, which are the bit which nearly always fails first due to fatigue, have an easier life.

will a cotic roadrat frame take a front lowrider rack?
-
• #59805
Its not the frame but the forks that it depends on. But even without lowrider mounting bolts you can get after market clamps.

So far the originals lasted 20plus years ;) suspect that riding with a couple broken hasn't helped weaken the rest. Hence might as well replace all the spokes.
What about replacing plain gauge spokes with butted ones?

Is this brake and gear cable set shit, not shit, or good?
Are cables all the same and the performance-gains come from the outers, or is it all in the setup?

I have some tektro long drop calipers with old style nutted fitment, was planning on using these for a new build, but forgot they were nutted rather than Allen bolt fitting, is there any way I can use them still? The new (old) frame is steel if that has any bearing.
-
• #59809
It's fine to use them on an Allen-key frame/fork as long as the centre bolts are long enough (i.e. it probably wouldn't work on a modern carbon fork due to the very deep crown). If I were doing it I'd make sure there was a Form A (i.e. thick) washer under the nuts as the overlap of an M6 washer over the 10mm rebate for the tube nut flange is only 1mm.
-
• #59810
So fit washers between the nuts and the frame/fork and should be fine?
Cheers.
-
• #59811
There is supposed to be a washer in there anyway, but standard fit is a thin one, a thicker Form A washer will make sure it doesn't distort.
-
• #59812
Forgive my ignorance on this, not very good at bolt sizes etc so I want a couple of m6 form a washers?
-
• #59813
M6 Form A is 1.6mm thick, an ordinary Form B washer is 0.8mm. Any fastener shop will be able to sort you out if you don't have any in your own fastener drawer

You can also swap the whole centre bolt for an allen nutted one.

What's the documentary film about (American) film censorship called?

You can, but it's a PITA if there's a grub screw locking the M7 thread which holds the centre bolt in the caliper arm, because the grub screw deforms the bolt thread, which then rips up the female thread in the sof aluminium arm on the way out.

?
Yeah, that has to be cheaper than driving to the fastener shop.

Can anyone recommend a decent/reliable cab firm to book to run us from Camberwell to Heathrow at 4am on Monday?

I'm not saying it's dangerous, just more hassle than it's worth in most cases.

Well considering I don't run a car and never been to a fasteners shop then probably easier.... Thanks for the help.

The documentary? There are loads. Do you have any more parameters, e.g. year released?
This one perhaps?

Did this in December with Dulwich cars. Arrived bang on time. Only complaint was the scary minicab driving and Pete Tong CD on the stereo.

Anyone know if I'm causing damage when I overcompress my shoulders/elbows/wrists in my sleep? I often wake up not being able to feel my arms. I would ask at the GP but I don't have the time for something that could be nothing.
