why cant I get the Chris King GripLock out easily from this steel fork?

Tried a lot of strength plus hammering the star nut but there is hardly any movement .. am I doing anything wrong? It was very hard to install as well. I need to replace the forks.

You just need a bigger hammer. The rubber o-ring is jammed between the steerer and the headset top cap, it will almost certainly die in the process.

Are you sure there's a screw missing? Looks like there was only supposed to be one in the first place

I absolutely am not sure - the hanger feels loose and wobbly, and as per the first pic it looks as if there is a hole for a screw.... but I guess it would be held in place by the wheel as well? Do you think no screw missing?.

I think it's not going to feel at all loose and wobbly when there's about 1200N of skewer tension clamping the hanger to the dropout.

If the size is right.

I will quit my unnecessary worrying then. Whilst we're here, am i right (he says preparing himelf for disappointment) in thinking this will work in this?
Almost certainly, I've never seen an actual star nut that wasn't M6 thread.
Remember for a mere £10 you could have a much nicer stem cap :-)

Can anyone recommend a nice cafe where one can set up shop to get some work done in San Diego? I've got a "free" afternoon.

Q
i've a carbon fork with alu crown. the paint around the crown is chipped to fuck, so it was suggested i sand/ strip the crown to show the bare alu. would caustic soda work? or is that overkill? just sandpaper?

Caustic will eat the alu before it eats the paint, dude. will take 5 mins with sandpaper and be much cleaner than Nitromors or similar.

Napalm it.

Wasn't there someone in London who had specialised (no pun intended) in repairing Sturmey Archer hubs?

Does anyone "on here" have Dura Ace 7970?
If so, I really, really need a borrow of your front wiring harness to test something.

friction shifting a Shimano clutched 10 speed rear derailleur (on an eight speed setup) will not work will it?

Why not?

It had always been part of the city & guilds bike mechanic course which was the industry standard qualification before cytech hit off. So a lot of people should have the skills.

Caustic soda does not strip paint. Dichloromethane (old nitromors) would do the trick, but it probably would also dissolve what ever is used to glue the carbon together.

Why not?
I'm hoping to be proven wrong but wouldn't there be too much cable travel with the new Dynasys actuation ratio for a bar end shifter?
