  • I would agree that that doesn't look like any carbon failure I've seen (from snapped bars and fork steerer), but also better to be safe that sorry. Better pics would probably help

  • Wouldn't they. Will have a go.

  • I'm not even sure the 2007 Langster came with carbon forks.

Edit:Google says it is carbon but that the crown and steerer are aluminium.

  • Yeah, in which case the chip is through paint? And the crumbly bits would be aluminium oxide which is not great, but my assumption would be less bad that CF

  • This rear mech is less than 2 weeks old, about 200 miles.
    Salt damage already? Really??

  • Dude, salt damage anything.

Can't see clearly what's the problem there.

  • ^ those black marks won't wipe off and the surface feels slightly rough

  • Gotcha.

Wouldn't worry too much about it, if you're gonna ride in salt again, you'll know what to do.

  • Just annoying that it's happened so quickly, I was hoping it would stay shinier longer. I don't suppose it could be polished out at all?

  • Might be able to restore it with some wire wool and polish. I've not seen one go that bad so quickly and I can be quite sparse on the cleaning of my bikes sometimes

  • Now, I'm no expert on carbon forks but I suspect that large chip through which whitish crumbly material visible is not good. Is it reparable not good, probably about time to get some new forks not good, or stop riding your bike now STOP! not good?

It's just by where the brake bolt goes in (cue crappy camera phone pic)

That is oxidisation of an aluminium fork crown, and not itself any problem. Once the aluminium has a layer of oxide it is sealed from the air and it won't oxidise any more. The problem might arise of the oxidisation happens where the carbon legs are bonded to the crown, and that will break the bond that holds them together. Best thing is to leave it for now, you could spray a wax sealant on it which will seal it some more, but don't panic. Get new forks when you are ready.

Since I fitted it a couple of weeks ago I've tried to make sure it gets a wipe down or at least a squirt of GT85 after a ride. In fact it seems to have gotten worse overnight when it was cleaned and today's ride. Surely a squirt of gt85 wouldn't cause such corrosion?

  • Wire wool would scratch off more of whatever feeble plating is on there, making it corrode faster next time. I say just give it a rub with anything greasy and leave to proper polish job till summer.

  • ^^ Thank you - I have stopped panicking!

  • Anyone having problems with whatsapp over the past couple days?

It seems people are receiving my messages several hours late.

  • I see lots of disgruntled Facebook posts about it.

  • It was down for 2 hours a few days ago Link. I'd imagine they're still having problems.

  • It's just Facebook trying to figure out how to send advert through a chat.

  • I was thinking it was a bit ludicrous to think it would immediately go to shit in the hands of facebook, that all the same people and machines would be keeping the gears turning.

  • Presumably a shitload of people have signed up in the last few days after all the publicity it's got, so their servers can't keep up with the extra traffic.

  • Actually a shitload of people quit using it and moved to Telegram up to a hundred new users per second.

  • Excellent

  • thanks!
i have skeletor fingers, so am really after long finger gloves rather than large ones; dont have to be cycling specific.
bump in case anyone knows of any!

EDIT: oh skeletor has hench hands, more like pumpkin jack... google image confirmed

I have long fingers... to give you an idea, 22cm from base of palm to tip of middle finger...

So far I've found that Campagnolo, TLD and Specialized XXXL fit perfectly

Mavic's fit me, and I have fairly long digits.

  • Can anyone recommend some headphones with the following features / characteristics:
    Wireless
    Loud & plenty of bass
    Built in mic
    Some sort of mute button

I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone:
    1) More freedom of movement when using the turbo
    2) Something that I can take stupid late night work calls on (again while I'm on the turbo)

    Any results?

  • My shopping just now came to £6.66.

Should I have bought another item or just accept I'm evil incarnate?
