  • If you want cheap, dont buy a chain bath. Use an old toothbrush and some cheap detergent in hot water.

Lube will always stay a discussion I guess. Myself I'm very satisfied with Squirt Lube. Bought it in June, trained a lot, went to the Alpes, came back and trained again, did a 3000km tour through Europe and the bottle isnt even half empty. I havent had to clean my chain once since I use this. Sometimes just wipe off some excess wax, thats it.

  • 3,000km is quite a distance, do you check for chain wear every now and then?

  • Honestly I dont. I just replace parts when necessary, which isn't the case yet.

  • Pretty much like every customers in my shop whom face a £100 bill for replacing the cassette, chain and chainring of their 10 speed bicycle.

Chain likely to wear around 3,000km, if replaced soon, it'll prevent the entire drivetrain from wearing out at the same time and save you something like £40-70 from not replacing the cassette and/or chainring.

  • I'll get to measuring for wear tomorrow. Your logic is so logical that we tend to forget...

  • are gator hardshells considered more grippy than gatorskins?

any other suggestions for slick 'n' grippy, punctureproof and light 700c tyre in the 28-32c range?

  • I find them less grippy tbh, especially in the wet.

  • Add the stack height of headset and stem to the head tube, then add another 3mm for the spacer on top of the stem. Integrated headset stack should be about 5mm with an STS cover, road stems are 40-44mm with a couple just under that. Taking all that together, you need 150mm steerer

Cheers Tester, will cut to 155 to be safe, just need to get it near slammed for now.

I'm currently in the same boat after getting wheelspin quite often on yesterday's ride while climbing on gatlrskins, really frustrating.

Duranos are very puncture proof and more grippy but not light!

  • Ribimo?

Assemble everything and mark where you want the cut, you can always cut a bit more off, but you can never cut a bit more on :-)

  • Fat bike questions.

    1. Am I going to be able to lock it up? (used as commuter/ beater)....
    2. Is it a fucking stupid idea or just a merely daft one?
  • A lot of dock shackles will struggle to go round the wheel and frame.

    So get security skewers.

My fatbike is so much fun. Fun is sensible.

    DO IT!

  • Its tempting, very tempting.
There's on for sale on STW, about 5 mins away from my house here.
I just test rode it, and it fits great.
I want to put drop bars on it.
(its an on one fatty, and is £700 complete, with some upgrades- brakes mostly).
Need to decide- but a part of me thinks I should be sensible- buy a shitty older MTB and just be satisfied with 2.25" tyres and know that its (probably) not going to be nicked in Nottingham...

  • Nothing to decide. Buy it.

You're going to need to be careful with the wheels. But otherwise it'll be fine.

The ride over anything aspect offroad is a blast. I have a near fat slick set-up on the cargo bike, and also enjoy the comfy cruiser style riding on tarmac.

At the end of the day its just a bike. Use it how you want. It wont make you the fastest on the trail, or road. Quite the opposite. But the oft stated 'smile factor' is there in spades.

It was below freezing a couple nights ago. So my fatbike is about to become a daily driver. Cant wait.

The stock tyres on the On-one look very nice. I reckon the on-one would work well with drops. I really wanted drops on mine. But got tempted by front sus. Which I kinda felt moved it more into the realm of hardtail. So went with a H-bar.

  • Apologies for boring question:

I work for a medium sized charity looking for a file transfer solution primarily for data transfer (e.g. supporter data to fulfilment houses, web agencies etc) and artwork file transfer (e.g. to printhouse). While the requirements are fairly minimal, in line with ICO best practice we want to restrict access across the organisation (so for example not letting the whole staff team access people's personal details if we're uploading supporter data). I'm assuming a business account with a few users set up is the most straightforward way of doing this. User-friendly is a priority as we're all idiots. Box, Dropbox and Sugarsync all look much of a muchness and cost basically the same - any thoughts?

  • seem to be losing pressure from one of my hydraulic discs [Avid Elixir RS L] on my mtb. had them bled a couple of months back and now it's barely working, lever pulling all the way back to the bar. No sign of any fluid leaking from anywhere.

I still haven't really caught up to hydraulics so am a bit lost, anyone got any suggestions whats up with them?

  • A leak sounds likely

Possibly get them rehosed and bled. Or learn to do it yourself. It is good to know how.

I used to fear bleeding hydraulics but have now cut down hoses, installed olives and rebled them.

  • If BLB track hubs are re-branded Formula's, what are the BLB Freestyle hubs? where can I get them cheaper?

    bump?

  • i've had them bled twice and it's happened each time, I don't have a bleed kit but recognise i need to get over my fear!

I just don't want to have to replace the brake if it's easily sortable.

off to the bike shop i think

  • Anyone have any experience with the new Look S-Track pedals?

They look rad, and I met someone in the shop who was raving about them, but I remember someone on the forum saying there was a problem with them?

  • bump?

There was some discussion of this in the polo wheel thread fairly recently. I used it to double check the dimensions, couldn't find an exact match... Have a look.
