Would a BMX freewheel fit a standard flip flop hub?
-
• #50379
Standard BMX freewheel, yes. Mini BMX freewheel, no.

I need a new iron because my girlfriends ex housemate managed to fuck up our current iron and burn her synthetic clothes to it.
Can anyone recommend a cheap iron that works smoothly and doesn't stick to clothes?
Cheers.

I have an iron that got replaced for no reason other than Mrs Bobbo did not like it. If you can come to Shepherd's Bush to pick it up its yours for nowt.

Anyone know where I can get a Fizik 'flashfit' done in London for some shoes I bought online?

What is the mdcc_tester approvedâ„¢ 3/32" chain for single speed use?
-
• #50386
Wippermann 7Z1 for outdoors, 7R8 if you're running 3/32" on the track

What's your view on the wipperman connex 708?
-
• #50388
It's a 7-speed derailleur chain. If I ever needed a 7-speed derailleur chain, I'd get a 708 or an 808, whichever was cheaper, but bearing in mind that the extra length of the 808 might be needed on some bikes.
As a singlespeed chain, a 708 is pointless because other Wippermann alternatives are better and cheaper.

Hey McTester, what was your top tip for 1/8 singlespeed chains again?
-
• #50390
1Z1 for outdoors, 1R8 for track.

I'm going to put a 38t chainring on my sram crankset, should I drop the big ring down to a 52t or will a 53t work?

How long a Shimano square taper BB will I need to run a 7400 series Dura Ace road chainset single speed (chainring on outside) with a track wheel running SS. Wheel is 120mm spaced to 126mm for use on a road frame.
107mm should be close, assuming it's actually FC-7400 designed for 112mm BB as a double. FC-7410 uses a 103mm BB for double, so you won't be able to bring the outer ring in any further to get a track-ish chain line. If you end up experimenting with different lengths, bear in mind that you might be able to save some money by buying your own BB tools rather than repeatedly taking the bike to shops for BB swaps.
I'm going to put a 38t chainring on my sram crankset, should I drop the big ring down to a 52t or will a 53t work?
Modern road front dérailleurs are mostly happy with up to 16t difference between chain rings, so 38/53 should be fine.

53/38 is fine, a 15t jump is only one smaller than a typical compact.

Argh, fucking tester.

Haha. Thanks chaps. Now to find some reasonably priced ct2 rings

• #50396
XXcycle are usually good for Stronglight, but no 130mm CT2 38t at the moment

What tires should I buy? I can't decide... Currently looking at:
Continental GP4000S
Continental Attack & Force 2
Vittoria Open Corsa Evo Slick 2 -

For what kind of riding? You can disregard the attack/force combo, go for the Vittorias if you want something faster with less puncture resistance, or the GP4000s for a more reliable option.

Depends on the time of year, also- I'd happily run the Vitts through summer, but come Autumn I'd rather just stay at home and give myself a bit of a spruce up with the cheese grater, it'd save dripping all over the bike after doing it on a corner in the lanes somewhere.

But would you be out on the nice wheels come Autumn? That's the other question to ask.
Okay, anyone need any thing done?
