Expecting flowers on valentines day? Pfft, wasn't worth it.
-
• #48153
Flowers and/or jewellery is always a win.
-
• #48154
Yes, but expecting to be given something on a certain day because you're obliged to is stupid.
Giving flowers because you feel like it or you think it might make them feel better = win

This.
Are you even obligated to do anything after a year at all? It's not exactly the Treaty of Nerchinsk, is it?

I was just thinking today about a little something for the OH
(not a euph)
maybe for our 10 year anniversary, but I don't actually know when that is. I don't think he does either. I can't be absolutely certain, as it's never come up in conversation before... anyway, it'd be a vague sometime-in-the-right-season sort of anniversary. -

While I totally agree you shouldn't feel obliged to give gifts on anniversaries or Valentin's Day etc., it rarely backfires to do so.

relatedly - does anyone have recommendations for a custom vinyl record maker?
also, will they only do original or copyright/licence held stuff, or can I get a "mix tape" record?
I'm assuming it's not actually legal to make mixtapes even from music one legitimately owns :/ -
• #48159
Had it done a couple of years ago, so it's definitely possible. But, like you said, probably not legal. Can't remember where.
-
• #48160
Can't you do whatever you like as long as you don't sell it or use it in something you'll make money off of?
-
• #48161
You would think so... hence, it's probably illegal.

Small run vinyl used to be a huge thing in the Early 00's with white label records for the clubs. Can't remember where people got this stuff done though. Lots of peoples music was filled with unlicensed samples.

Wide 29er rims that aren't as expensive as Stans? Not too bothered about weight, but I don't fancy the 830g Kris Holm unicycle rims.

This. Surprise the lady with some bling in a box. She'll be delighted! -

I have two fixed bikes and after my holidays, if my knees are still okay after my trip, then I'll start to save money for a roadbike. I noticed that the cheap parts I've bought in the past for my fixed have all been replaced. I just don't wish to spend a lot of money on a roadbike. I'd prefer to buy it second hand or in parts (easier on my heart to buy one piece a month). Any tips on what kind of roadbike I should buy? Maybe a good brand that I can start with that's pretty "cheap"? I do wish to ride aluminium because it's more rigid then steel. I have a (according to myself) decent ammount of knowledge on fixed bikes, just nothing on roadbikes besides the fact that I start drooling everytime I see a Cervelo S5

2nd hand aluminium is not a good idea
contact points will probably have more impact on your comfort than frame material
buy a road bike that fits, probably the most important factor in a road bike

If I buy a new pair of Campag Khamsin wheels will my old 8-speed Campag cassette fit? Or will they only be 9/10/11 speed compatible?
thanks

I'm assuming it's not actually legal to make mixtapes even from music one legitimately owns :/Do you want to dj it or do you want to have a longer lasting proper record? You could get acetates done if you were playing out somewhere but if you want proper vinyl search for small run pressing. I reckon they'd press whatever and not care about copyright. It's loads cheaper over here than in Oz (not that you care) and there's probably some continental options worth looking into if you want more than one pressed.

All steel frames are flexi, especially around the bottom bracket since there is a lot of pressure on that part. That's the thing I don't like about steel. It's more comfortable with bumps in the road but a lot more flexi.
Why is a secondhand alu frame not a good idea?

Because without X-ray, you can't see the tiny cracks that can form inside al, lets say it's been in a crash, it could be fucked but you've no way of knowing unless the seller tells you or it fails underneath you... Suddenly. Same with carbon.
Steal bends before it breaks, al and carbon can both fail suddenly with no warning.
Having said that I've bought a second hand al frame before, but I trusted the seller and it wasn't that old...
Caveat emptor.

answers own question apparently not, a different spline pattern
I have a question of my own. I'm approaching one year with the woman in a few weeks time, a feat I have not achieved before. What is the correct protocol in terms of cards/gifts? We are going on holiday for it but wanted to make sure I don't cock it up like my previous "oops I forgot to buy you flowers on valentines day" fail.
