  • Not at art school, and not a dev, just capable of engaging with changing technology. No doubt the same people that complain about art school have never had any creative education and actually know little to nothing about the ins and outs of print or web design.

    You've completely misunderstood the point.

    It's hardly "changing technology".

  • I'm a print and digital designer and issuu is definitely a dick. All browser-based PDF viewers are. It's only gaining traction because it requires so little effort, as Tester surmises.

    +1

  • ^+1 Gotcha. Oops.
Sorry hippy. Still, no need to be condescending to 'the poor dears'.

I can 'engage' with changing technology too - I have to. Change doesn't automatically make something better. As for art school, I based my folio on Jackson Pollock so I could throw paint at a piece of paper. I fucking rock.

I'm not interested in slagging off art students (much). It was my shared hatred of stupid pretty flippy page fucking PDF viewers that made me re-quote.

I still don't want any fries with that, thanks.

  • You want to go large though don't you?

  • Alright, alright, I'll supersize!

  • Way way way too many syllables on this page...

  • Do you mean why not buy a front u-brake? If so, this one is already available to use.

Thanks to you both. Part ordered. Will see how it goes.

it's all really contingent on how you set it up. In general you want eliminate spacer and keep the pads closer to the brakes to "open up" the upper arms... that way you actually get some power.

brake levers make a difference too. linear pull and all that.

    can work.

  • Hmmm, no.

  • Anyone know much about using a Sphygmomanometer?

I need to get one to for daily use (not for myself). I know digital ones are common but stuff that uses rapidly depleting batteries piss me off to no end, so want a manual one.

My question; Is it more difficult to use one with a rotary dial to compared to the upright mercury level things?

It seems like all the new/cheap ones on sale have the round rotary dial, but all doctors I have seen use a manual Sphygmomanometer have had the upright mercury tube thing. These are available used on ebay but seem to cost at least twice as much as a new rotary dial one.

  • Am I correct that it is a legal requirement in the UK for a bicycle to have 2 braking mechanisms? i.e. fixed plus front brake, or ss plus 2 brakes?

Is there anything wrong (other than stupidity) in a shop selling "sweet fixes" with no brakes even if they look like SS?

All new bikes should also have a bell and reflectors fitted.

Not sure if these rules apply to incomplete bikes and have been told that is why some shops sell bikes without pedals.

  • I have never understood the pedals thing!

  • Brakes, crank, front wheel, saddle or pedals and so on are not a legal requirement in terms of sales, as long as the "BSO" is not sold as a complete bike.

  • ^^ Drasinest

  • I'm getting a bit of "forward play" in my cranks at the moment (by which I mean that if I'm back pedaling to brake the cranks feel like they are moving before slowing me down).
Something is obviously wrong but my knowledge is limited; anyone got any ideas?

  • slack chain?

  • Chain too slack
    Chain too worn
    Chainring too worn
    Legs too worn
You've picked up the bike with the coaster brake

  • It's called backlash, and slack chain is by far the most likely explanation. If you have zero backlash, your chain is probably too tight.

  • Cheers all; chain is slack so I guess that is it. At least it's an easy sort!

It's been a long winter and there was a lot of cake.........
