  • Could it be clogged with road grime salt etc, clean it or LBS will have a replacement spring thingo.

  • yeah, actually... Ive disassembled it and the spring is there, its just oxidised and in shit condition. It doesnt slide up and down in that little sheath thing that mounts to the caliper. Should I just unleash WD40 on it?

    Observation fail.

  • Clean and regrease, bike maintenance 101.

    Corny = B.A. Baracus
    Dammit = Murdock

  • Righto... its a tiagra caliper. I have a fully functional sora caliper here, exactly the same mechanism.

    The right hand caliper arm is totally limp under load. I can close the caliper using gravity. The Sora one i need to squeeze against the spring.

    The Tiagra one ahs the spring in place, it is moving in that little sheath thing that it slides through. Im stumped.

    The spring seems to be doing nothing at all.

  • Stick the Sora one on the bike and bring the Tiagra one to Mr T's leaving do tomorrow where I shall lay my healing hands on it

  • I bet its something bloody simple too.

  • Its fucking mocking me.

  • Of course it is, it has defeated you.

    Need pics if diagnosing remotely.

  • Cheers anyway. I dont know whats going on.

    Sora it is... my bike will hate me.

  • Yeah, I'd have said "I have another front brake"

  • :)
    Stunning isn't it.
    A freelance editor of ours has turned up but with no reporter arriving any time soon it looks like he's just going to sit and spend the day talking to me about shit films and getting paid a lot for it.
