Makes a lot more sense. Think I have a 7speed knocking about somewhere, will give that a go. Thanks
Just notice I missed some stuff out in my original comment - I meant it take some time to get the hang of shifting with 10 speed.
7 speeds will be the easiest and most comfortable to shift IMHO.

He can't really start a classifieds thread due to his neg rep status for the "mark all read" incident
-
• #36114
can you advertise services in the classifieds?
TBH, I think the best bet is just to make up some 'scoble's nut buttering' cards and leave them in phone boxes, that should do the trick. I'll even make them. -

i nerged him again for this - thatll learn ya!
Does that mean you cant start threads if youve got a neg rep status?

IIRC Obermeyer made or are going to make a dérailleur, which could be used with Shimano or Campagnolo, depending on which hole you put the bolt which holds the cable. I want to know if I can modify a Mavic 851/801 to do the same?(I know this problem can be overcome by using a shiftmate) Does anyone know any measurements for the difference in distance between the end of the outer and the cable clamp (?) for shimano and campagnolo.
Thanks.

lazy git - start your own thread
I will when you start riding your new bike.
p.s. your kitchen does not make an acceptable indoor track environment.

No, just that doing so in classifieds, where your rep is visible, might lead people to suspect he'd pissed in the peanut butter or something.
Oh, and Ed, crunchy please.

It's more complicated than that. Ratio between cable travel and dérailleur cage lateral travel is determined by the whole cable pull/clamp/parallelogram geometry, such as the angle of the cable, the position of the clamp relative to the corners of the parallelogram (both distance and angle) etc.
It is an accident of design that some dérailleurs can be bodged to approximate the rate of another incompatible design by simply moving the cable clamp a bit, but there's no way of knowing how, or whether, this would work on another unrelated design without a comprehensive knowledge of the geometry and designed rate.

Some info on combinations that work, have a look here.

Yes. There's wheel builders, the courier thread (was it dickie?) and one about chuttney off the top of my head...
Although it's worrying you describe scobles nut butter as a service... Are you sure you aren't thinking of something else?

Ah, would you like my nut's butter?

Theres an alloy Pinarello road bike locked to a lamppost not far from where I live, its clearly had its wheels stolen at some point and the owner has died/abandoned it, its been there for over 2 months now rotting.
Thoughts on if I should get my hacksaw out?

Might as well.
