6pt dropped off a 100mm, thanks anyway.
Right- a question:
At 00:17 in this YouTube tutorial CAMPAGNOLO ULTRA TORQUE CRANKSET BEARING REPLACEMENT - YouTube
you see the chap remove a split ring which holds the bearings in place. He then uses a rocket tool style thing to seat the new bearings, before replacing the split ring/circlip thing.
Spot what's missing from these pictures:
No circlip type thing on either side.
If I walk into Condor tomorrow are these likely to be a common stock item that I can buy on the spot?
And, using commonly available household materials, can I seat the bearings myself without fucking them up, or should I just take the cranks into Condor with me?

It will feel different, but after few hours the rider will adapt and then something with a long stem will feel weird by comparison.
^ this.
And this is from someone who actually have a 60mm stem on their bike at one stage.

You will not die if you don't fit the circlip for a test ride. You can order one for a couple of quid from Chain Reaction should Condor fail to come up with the goods.
I am living proof of the veracity of the first statement.

The metal phallus type thing that the mechanic hits with his mallet?
no, the thing with the arms that go under the bearing and pull it off once he has removed the circlip

What did you seat the bearings with Andy?

you must have some pipe lying around that fits snugly over the axle but not bigger than the inner race of the bearing?
-
• #26911
Axle OD is 25mm, I've got any amount of 15, 22, 30 and 40mm pipe, but no 26-28.

push the bearing down by hand to the point it needs assistance, lash three equal length pieces of hardwood around the axle resting on the bearing, hit with mallet, super-bodge.

That does beat "loosely assemble in frame, hit with hammer" as a method though
-
• #26914
your method is how I fitted my headset, vaguely. I replaced "hit with hammer" with "smash whole assembly off garden wall until cups are seated" because I couldn't find my home made headset press

Where on planet fuck does one get a front mech bolt for a sram braze on mech?
CRC sent me a brand new mech with no bolt, grrrr. I phoned them and they say they're gonna nab one off another in stock mech and send it to me, so the circle of the missing bolt will continue. In the meantime i would like to get this thing rolling at the weekend so don't mind buying/borrowing one for the short term...

Maths fail.
The stupider the stupid people are, the fewer of them we need to achieve the same average.
Depends on which average you pick.

Don't forget to throw in minus two standard deviation, just coz.
