• The stem on my System Six- pictured in the thread in CP

  • I work in online publishing and spend a lot of the day switching between live and preview servers by changing www.whatever.com/page_I'm_on to preview.whatever.com/page_I'm_on. Is there some way in Firefox that I can make this a simple keystroke, preserving the exact page I'm on but switching back and forth between the two?

  • I have a Black and Decker 18V cordless hammer drill you are welcome to- it has a case, and two batteries, and is in perfect working order.

    However- the charger is banjo'd.

If you can be bothered to source a charger, then it'd be fine.

would be insterested, put up a shoe rack that needed roughly 1,254,895 screws and I was cursing the death of my drill.

PM me the model number and I will see if I can source a charger.

  • Yes.

    Bookmark this:
javascript:(function(){location.href=location.href.replace('www', 'preview')})();
[Edit] Or bookmark this and edit the bookmark and copy in the above. Then you can use a key word or just press the bookmark to change the url.

I'm sure some javascriptmonkey could rewrite it so that it toggles between preview / www, depending on which the url says.

Hmm, thanks, but that's not working for me.

Why not just use a cable hanger ?

  • Why not just use a cable hanger ?

judging by dammit's previous posts i suspect that he wants to use a stem as a battery holder for di2.

  • Yep.

  • at last a suitable use for that blasted whale penis of a stem

    should take three size Ds

  • anyone have or tried outland or exustar keo type pedals?

Exactly- this was always in the back of my mind.

  • Why aren't tandems crank arms (especially for TT) arranged with the rear one having a 90 degree difference, surely that will eliminate deadspots, thus creating a much more efficient/faster ride?

EDIT: Should have chose my wording better, to reduce deadspots, not eliminate.

  • 90° phased tandems have been tried, but 0° phased tandems are much easier to ride out of the saddle, and either 0° or 180° phasing works better than other arrangements because 90° or 270° phasing means the stoker is trying to pedal fast (crank speed is non-uniform through the cycle) when the pilot is pedalling slowly (and vice versa), causing a conflict which unsettles the slower moving member of the pair. 90° phasing is probably better for seated climbing on a touring tandem, where slow cadence can lead to the whole ship coming to a halt during the dead spots.

  • Or I could have just pointed you to Sheldon, who has it covered

  • Must spread rep etc, but very helpful, thanks :)

  • You then essentially have 1 person pushing 2 bodies along. If both riders have good technique then the 'deadspots' are minimal.

  • Here we go:

    Plenty of room.

(AA batteries are the same size as the Di2 ones, so used for testing here)

This is the underside, I was going to drill in the centre of the flat section:

But wondering about somewhere closer to the bar clamp as it is alloy lined:

    Thoughts, anyone?

  • How long do the batteries last? Seems so unnecessary turning something that doesn't need power into something that does - (but then I thought this about the Kindle until I got one and it was awesome).

Can anyone recommend a hotel, restaurant, or thing to do in Birmingham?

  • I remember hearing that the batteries last 18months. Quite a long time anyway

  • the battery lasts bloody ages. 6 months of constant use.

  • Option B would be to drill the BB shell, which might be more sensible, and (as everyone and their dog has done) put the battery in the seatpost.

  • Brum: I really enjoyed wandering around the jewellery quarter.

Thanks. Will check it out. Stupid question, but is it actually a jewellery quarter, you know like, for jewels? Or just shops bars etc?

  • it's where they keep the small amount of things that aren't grey, anything from a crunchy wrapper to a postbox qualifies.

  • Thoughts, anyone?

How big is the cable and what direction does it need to go in? Maybe you could make a groove in the alloy section so it exits along the side of the bars.

it's the old jewellery, gold and silversmithing area. some streets feel really lost in time. I'm sure there are more obvious and exciting places to visit, but I thought it was really interesting when I went (which was more than 10 years ago), mind you, I was making a lot of jewellery at the time. I'd like to go back and see how it's changed.

if you like chocolate you could go to Bournville.

lots of forumites actually live round those parts...
