I have a franken-wheel which has been progressively beaten to death over about 5 years. I've replaced spokes & nipples of varying, but not incorrect, length. Is a bike shop speaking shit when they say its impossible to true because all the spokes need to be exactly the same?
Surely if i can get correct tension, the length doesn't mean anything?
I should probably declare that I couldn't get it straight myself... but Im a bit shit at truing and this bloke referred to himself as a "master wheelbuilder", which probably makes him a bit of a knob anyway.

true it yourself, go back in and slam it on the counter

To pass his Cytech L.2 my brother had to build a wheel to within 0.5mm tolerances. All the parts were well used and beaten up. He got it to 0.2mm, despite this he is no wheel builder and would never call himself one. The guy may not be able to get the wheel perfect but he should get it to a reasonable level.
But yeah. +1 to DIY, plenty of patence.

He reackons he's rebuilt it and re-used the re-useable spokes... which I thought was a no-no, no?

It better be fucken perfect! Im paying over the odds because of his bullshit credentials and the fact that I needed it ASAP. He's had it a week and a half and I've been riding my good bike in the shitting rain and now its all full of grit.

re using spokes should be fine
see jobst brandt on the issue

You shouldn't re-use spokes, but I've built a wheel from second hand parts and it's still alive.

I better be seeing new nipples.

Haven't got round to that yet because I'm a shambles. Ah well, new phone = new friends; sod the old ones.

The deraileur adjustment screws.
Remove screws, measure thread diameter and length, buy new ones from hardware store. I think rear dérailleur adjuster (limit) screw are typically M4x15 or thereabouts.

I've noticed over the past week or so that I've not been able to walk quite right and this morning I've narrowed it down to my left foot not being able to move up (bending at the ankle so my toes point to my head).
I can't seem to bend it no matter how hard I try but it doesn't hurt, time to go to the doctors?

I moved my number to giffgaff from virgin and it took a day but worked eventually, i had some probs because i'd lost the original simcard they sent me and put in the replacement, but they didn't know that.
My gf did the same but hers was done in an hour.

Our great leader was asking about mime types in the mod thread so I thought I would ask here.
Who are the better mimes, silent film artists like Keaton and Chaplin or those annoying French types like Marceau?

So, this wheel...
Its straight as an arrow. He's used shitting silver nipples which im not overly pleased about as i took it in with black ones. I can live with the colour, but is there any way to tell if they're brass or alu other than bite them?
Also, you can see on the hub the direction it was originally laced. Its now been laced in the opposite direction once rebuilt. I always thought you were supposed to go in the same direction?
Please advise, Cyclists of the Internet.
